"This is your fault, Keith!" Lance shouted as he swam around, searching for some sort of familiar object. He was frantic and afraid, but definitely wouldn't let Keith know. Not unless he wanted Keith to harass him.

"As if," Keith scoffed. "The only one at fault here is you. If you hadn't been so adamant on being faster than me, we wouldn't be in this predicament!"

"You shouldn't have suggested we test it out!" Lance shot back crossing his arms over his chest while glaring at the red tailed merboy.

"You shouldn't have suggested we do it 'right here and right now'!" Keith countered, mimicking Lance at the last part. Lance gasped and flung his hand over his heart.

"I do not sound like that!"

"Well you do to me!"

Their faces were inches away at that point. Keith had never been more irritated with Lance in his entire life. A race. Lance had wanted them to race just to lose. Lance is an Alpha for pete's sake. His tail wasn't made for swimming fast. Keith's tail, being the tail of an Omega, was curvy and perfect for swimming fast.

A shadow casted above the two, and they immediately took cover by swimming further from the surface.

"Land dwellers." Lance whispered in fascination. He'd never seen one before. He'd heard stories from traumatized sea creatures who had lost relatives, lovers, and children to "fishermen", but he had never had the opportunity to lay his eyes upon one.

At least, until now.

"Lance!" Keith shouted as Lance took off after the large object that floated over their heads. It hadn't made it far, since it was moving at an alarmingly slow rate.

Lance poked his head out of the water. The object held four land dwellers total. One appeared to be female and the other were male. So he thought.

Lance watched as they casted a net into the water, chuckling to himself because he hadn't seen any fish in the area they were looking in.

The largest guy turned in Lance's direction, causing him to retreat back into the water, far enough where he couldn't see or be seen, but he could hear.

"The net moved! I think we caught something!" Someone cheered. Lance was confused. He hadn't seen any fish so what could they have cau—

"Lance!" Keith's panicked cry for help sent Lance in his direction, only to find his rival caught in the net.

Lance couldn't help but laugh. Keith was anything but thrilled and found no humor in the situation. Even being the result of a love affair his mother had with a land dweller, Keith was terrified of them. Growing up with Lance meant he had heard all the horror stories too and instead of being fascinated, he'd grown to be frightened.

They're going to eat me! Keith thought as he was raised closer to the surface.

Lance had thought of something first, swimming to the other side of the craft and using his strength to tip it over. Moving out of the way just in time, he avoided being landed on by the land dwellers and their creation.

Keith thrashed in the net until he was freed and he snatched up Lance's hand, prepared to flee. Lance halted Keith's retreat attempt.

"We have to help them, Keith." Lance stated. In return, Keith stared at him with wild eyes.

"Are you insane!" Keith screeched. "They just tried to eat me, Lance! Eat me!"

"I know! But," Lance looked Keith in the eyes. "I can't let them struggle knowing I could've done something to help."

Keith watched as Lance swam towards the sinking land dwellers. As much as he had wanted to escape, the good part of him wouldn't leave his childhood companion alone with a potential threat.

He swam after him.
