Can I start
by not being?
calmly leaving lives;
like an old yellow leaf
waving goodbye to the tree.
Can I start by unbecoming me?
fading away from those thousands of pictures
pinned on your wall,
sneaking out of those wooden frames
without making you feel the pain,
just one moment at a time;
or sometimes just,
dissolving into the background of the one,
where everyone is smiling
and no one blinked an eye.
I have learnt to take my breaths in reverse,
rhyming with the ticks of a clock
that spans from being, to not being;
and you know my steps are measured
like brown sugar in your tea.
But I don't wish to be traced back
to that moment of unbecoming
because I am tired of just being me.
No, it isn't sad, nor is it meant to be,
it is just me, calmly
unburdening myself from Me.
So can I start by falling apart,
And end it with forgetting me?

A/n- T.S. Eliot and his idea of the modern man has influenced my writing. 'The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock' is my favorite poem and 'Do I Dare Disturb The Universe' is my attempt to appreciate Eliot's poetry.
