Tyler passed the thermos to Kayley after he took a sip. They had just finished the mural and were sitting cross-legged in front of the wall, the early sunrise behind them.

As the night wore on, Kayley's condition had drastically worsened. It got so bad that Kayley had to lean one hand on the wall to keep herself upright. Tyler had insisted that she just sit down and let him finish the rest, but she shooed him away and kept going.

"How's it look?" Tyler asked and he cringed when she coughed again, each one painfully grating out of her system.

"Hey, Kayley?" Tyler asked as the rise and fall of her chest slowed.

"Mmm?" she mumbled weakly.

He cleared his throat and forced out the words. Tyler was able to control his voice, but not the tears that began to cloud his vision. "What do we say to Death?"

Kayley laughed, but it was interrupted by thick and rough coughs. When they stopped, her chapped lips stretched into a ghostly smile, her eyelids fluttered closed, and she leaned onto him. Kayley drew a final, ragged breath and whispered, "Not today."
