Water moans and Denial

Start from the beginning

I cough out some water and after a while, my breath comes back to me. I make a move to remove my hands from his neck but his hold tightens around me. I look up to meet his eyes for the umpteenth time today and find him giving me the same intense look he was giving me under water.

The breath I've just caught takes its leave again and all rational thought becomes buried in the 'stupid things you should never think about' locker in my head.

He leans in and drags his gaze to my lips making his eyes darken further. My eyes also find their way to his lips.

Screw everything.

Just one taste wouldn't hurt. One taste wouldn't change anything, not one thing at all. I argue with myself as I bring my face closer to his. He finally closes the distance between us stopping when our noses touch. He looks directly in my eyes and I stare at him back with eyes that I was sure was mirroring the same want and passion.

He moves his mouth and touches the tip of his tongue to the corner of my mouth. He then places a tiny kiss there. I gasp making him groan and turn my head to stop the teasing and join our mouth together when....

"Hunter, where are you?" Mark calls out. His gaze roams the area and finally lands on us.

"Am I interrupting something?" He asks his eyes wide and face twisted into one of surprise.

Reality sets in and the weight of what I was about to do settles on me and leaves me shaken. I was about to kiss Hunter.

"No, you aren't interrupting anything" Hunter says letting go of me.

I find it hard to ignore the jab of hurt at Hunter's quick dismissal of us kissing. Why was I even angry? It wasn't as if I wasn't about to say the same thing he said before he beat me to it.

I move out of the water and sigh. What was the point of getting dressed every morning if it was going to eventually become wet anyway?

Hunter also gets out of the water and approaches Mark. Mark says something to him and he nods, both of them turning to walk away. He turns back and glances at me before disappearing round the corner.

I sit down and rest my back against a rock. Every single thing that has happened in the past one hour goes through my mind and I touch the corner of my lips which was still tingling from the peck Hunter gave me there.

Other times we had tried to kiss had been so casual and could be ignored but this one was so blatantly obvious and we would have no doubt gone pass an ordinary kiss judging by how I was feeling then and how he was looking at me if Mark hadn't interrupted.

I don't want to be attracted to Hunter; I don't want to be attracted to someone who I don't even like.

The hatred tension is the one causing all this; we must definitely lay all our cards on our table and maybe form a truce.

I sigh again. I don't even know what to do anymore. The attraction is becoming unbearable.

It's suffocating me.

***************************

I sit there thinking for what seems like hours and finally get up to go and change my clothes.

Again

Today is slowly becoming eerily similar to yesterday except for the almost kiss. I shake my head. I've got to stop thinking about this, Hunter has probably forgotten all about it.

I enter the tent expecting no one to be inside except King since Hunter had followed Mark off but freeze from the shock coursing through my entire being caused by the scene playing out right in front of me.

Hunter and a girl were in a heated make out session with Hunter crawling all over her and pinning her tight to the bed.

My bed!

I continue staring in shock to notice that the girl was Rain; one of the girls that played truth or dare with us on the first night of camp.

The two horn dogs don't even notice my entrance.

I stare at Hunter and something sharp pricks my chest and make my eyes water. It's not as if I'm hurt or anything, I just can't believe that after what happened, he didn't even wait for a while before jumping another girl. And that too, on my bed.

Not that I care.

My chest aches more and a traitorous tear slips out of my right eye. It's probably all just because of my bruised ego.

I quietly slip out of the tent and start to walk off with no direction in mind. I eventually end up in an area with trees that all look the same.

I sit down under a tree and stare off into empty space with no specific thought in my mind.

Poink

Something drops on my head and I remove it from my hair to see that it was a nut. It might be the squirrels.

Poink poink poink

I ignore it and continue staring off into nothing.

Poink Poink poink Poink poink poink Poink poink poink

I look up and see a boy sitting on the tree branch, one leg stretched in front of him and the other folded with his hand resting on top of it. He looked totally nonchalant.

"You're been glaring at air since you've been here and I don't really see anything so infuriating about it" He says gesturing at air and making a move to climb down.

He had an accent, not an ordinary accent, but an Australian accent. He finally succeeds in climbing down and I become tongue-tied. He was really handsome. He had black hair and blue eyes that made me think of summer skies.

I don't need see another good looking guy today. I've had enough of all good-looking guys turning out as jerks, the prime example being Hunter.

"What's got you so peeved?" He asks.

I stare blankly at him. He was seriously asking me that? I didn't even know him.

Wait. Shouldn't I run? He might be a serial killer or a human trafficker or worse a cannibal.

He must have seen the horror reflected in my eyes.

"Whoa.... Calm down, I'm not a serial killer or anything of that sort" he quickly pacifies.

Can he read minds? How did he know what I was thinking?

"You have a very expressive face; it's not that hard to guess what you're thinking" He says reading my thoughts again.

"Oh where are my manners, my name is......."
