We got off the subway and made our way down the street.
Suddenly, the Topangas sign came into view and I found myself tearing up. Shawn only pulled me closer.
I turned my face up to him.
"I didn't realize how much I missed this place" I said.
He smiled and gave me another tight squeeze before letting me go.
I peer inside. My mother isn't there, but I guess she hasn't been able to work much.
Then I see the stairs leading up to the Matthews apartment.
I'm back. It's kind of hard to believe.
As we reach their floor, Shawn lets go completely.
We walk up to their door, and we stand their, not doing anything.
He turns to me, "You sure you're ready?"
I take a deep breath and wipe away my tears.
Then I look him straight in the eye.
"I'm ready"
He takes his key out of his pocket and carefully turns the lock.
Slowly, he pushes open the door, and I make my way right behind him.
Then we just stand there, with many eyes turned to us.
And for a while I'm speechless.
Then I open my mouth.
"Hi guys. I'm home."
