Chapter 29

"It is three in the fucking morning and nobody has told me shit for two hours." I said seriously, flattening my hands out on the counter as I stared down the nurse.

"Sir, if you'll please just take a seat I'll-"

"You've told me that the past five times I've bene up here and it's unacceptable." I told her. "When they kicked me out of her room for the doctor to finally show up after a ridiculous amount of time they said they'd be right out to update me and it has been three hours." I said harshly.

"Sir." The nurse gave me a death stare. "Sit down."

"No." I hissed.

"I am doing my best to find out information on your girlfriend, please just calm down."

"I won't just-"

"Mr. McKinley?" Someone said behind me.

I gave the nurse one last glare before turning around to face the doctor.

"Elizabeth is out of surgery and-"

"Surgery?" My eyes widened. "What the hell happened?" I asked in shock, running my hand down my face.

"Has nobody come out to update you before?" The doctor frowned, glancing down at his chart.

"No! Nobody has told me shit since midnight!" I exclaimed. "Why was she in surgery? Is she okay?"

"She had a burst appendix. You're lucky you brought her in when you did, the infection had started spreading." The doctor told me.

"Appendicitis?" My eyes widened.

"I'm surprised she was still talking when she came in, the pain must have been unbearable for the past few hours."

"We had a football game tonight and she's our kicker could that have made it worse?"

"She played a football game tonight? You're kidding."

"Practically won us the game." I replied honestly. "Why, is that bad?"

"The amount of pain a burst appendix causes is enough to knock out some of the toughest guys I know." The doctor laughed. "But you'll be able to see her now if you want. She's just starting to wake up but she'll be groggy for a while."

"Thanks." I sighed, running my hands through my hair as I followed him through the doors.

I should probably go and apologize to the nurses but did I give a shit? Nope.

Elizabeth was staring up at the ceiling when I walked into the room and she gave me a sheepish smile.

The doctor shut the door as he left us alone and I just shook my head, walking over to sit next to Elizabeth.

"You're a fucking idiot, you know that?" I laughed, bending forwards to kiss her.

"You know you really are starting to act like a boyfriend." Elizabeth whispered, a soft smile forming on her face.

"We'll talk about this while you're not doped up on pain meds and anesthesia." I laughed, leaning back in the chair. "I can't believe you played the game tonight. You were in pain even before we left for the game."

Elizabeth winced. "I was scared it was something else."

"Like what?"

"Last year this happened to uh, a friend. We had to take her to the hospital at like three in the morning and it turns out she was pregnant but the baby was like in the wrong spot and it was hella messy." Elizabeth sighed. "I didn't want that happening to me."
