Chapter 13 - Darren

“Y-you what?” I looked at Cale. He had a determined face on.

“I’m serious. Danielle. I don’t think you realize how much you’ve changed me for the better.”

He found my hand and grasped it.

“I was a blind, depressed teen who thought nothing of himself. But ever since you came into my life, I feel different. Like I have something, someone, to live for. You know what they say. ‘You never know what you can be until you have someone show you how.’ And you showed me who I can be, figuratively speaking of course.” He gave a little smirk. I giggled.

“I don’t think that’s a saying.”

“Well, it is now.” He trailed his hand softly up my arm and to my face where he brushed his thumb across my lips. “I love you Danielle.”

“I love you too, Cale.” I breathed before I gently pressed my lips to his. I wrapped my arms around his neck and he pulled me closer.

This was a passionate kiss. This was a kiss of two teens in love. There was no denying the feeling that I had for Cale. I mean, he was undeniably sexy, ridiculously smart, and beautifully talented even if he doesn’t believe it. So what if he’s got a few flaws? We all do. It’s part of being human.

I smiled out of the kiss. We were laying side by side on his bed. I looked at him. He was peaceful and serene.

“That’s one way to distract me enough so I don’t kill myself.” I tried to joke. He frowned. “Sorry. It’s just I… I don’t think I would be able to do anything to myself ever again after that.”

He lifted my hand that he was holding to his lips and kissed it.

“Good. Now it’s late. How about you go sleep?”

It was my turn to frown. I don’t know if I could sleep without nightmares tonight. With my whole ‘father-dying-sooner-than-he-should-be’ thing and the whole ‘I-was-about-to-commit-suicide’ thing, I didn’t trust myself.

“Can..Can you come with me?” I shyly asked. “I don’t trust myself right now.”

“Of course.”

We got up and I led him to my room and my bed. He hopped on as I quickly turned the lights off and hopped on next to him. Or on him? I realized as I landed on an elbow and a groan escaped his lips.

“Careful.” He whispered.

“Sorry. It’s dark. I can’t see.” I squeaked.

“Tell me about it.” He joked. I rolled my eyes and got comfortably under the covers. “I love you, Danielle.”

I loved the way he said my full name.

“I love you too, Cale. Good night.”

“Danni.” I heard a whisper from behind me. I turned and there he was. The man of my dreams. Cale stood there in his black tux, with a simple white rose pinned to the pocket. I grinned and walked up to him, my white dress flowing behind me. He held out his hand and I took it, interlacing our fingers.

“The beach was a good idea. It feels amazing here.” He whispered to me. I giggled.

“I told you.” I whispered back.

I looked into Cale’s eyes and smiled.

“You’re staring at me aren’t you?” He whispered and smirked.

“Can’t help it.”

I turned to look at the man who was smiling at us happily.
