Chapter 4: Two Weeks Passed

For the next two weeks, it went the same as the last day. I woke up and walked to the beach. I sat on the beach all day, walked back, ate dinner and went to bed. I didn’t really socialize with anyone except the occasional call to my father. When I did talk to someone in the house, I only responded with small sentences or one word responses. Even when we all went school supplies shopping, I sat quietly in the back seat gazing out the window or silently grabbing what I need and placing it in the cart. When I helped Cale get his things by leading him towards what he needed, I was silent as he was talking about how Chase hasn’t come visited all summer and he was frustrated with him or something. Once we got back to the house I took all my things and went up to my bedroom. I shut the door and placed all of my things on the floor by my bed. I grabbed my sharpies and started to decorate all of my things like I had done my entire life. A small knock sounded on my door and I mumbled, “Yes?” The door opened and Cale’s face showed in the opening.

“I have all my stuff on the floor.” I said as I focused back on my half-done notebook.

“I figured. I just realized something though.” He leaned against my doorway.

“Hm?” I said absentmindedly.

“I never showed you the music room.”

I paused. I glanced up at Cale and his shaggy hair with his warm blue eyes.

“Do you want to see it?” He asked.

“Yeah.” I said quietly as I got up and brushed off the dirt from my hardwood floor. I followed him out the door and he turned left. I followed him, passing a few doors until we reached the end of the hallway. He grabbed the handle and slowly opened the door. I held my breath as I saw what was inside. A grand piano stood in one corner along with 2 electric guitars, a bass guitar, 3 acoustic guitars, 3 amps, a couple of microphones and mic stands, a keyboard, and a full drum set all scattered around the room, and on one wall seemed to be a small recording station.

“Wow.” Was all I managed to get out. My jaw was hanging open and I gazed around as he led me in.

“Play something.”

“What?” I glanced at him as he had his hands in his pockets and he was looking at me.

“Play something. Pick an instrument, grab a mic, and play. You need to release some stress.” He shrugged.

I gazed around the room before walked to the piano and sitting down. There was a mic already there and I saw Cale walk to the recording station and sit down.

I played a few chords before starting to actually play. The notes flowed from my hands and I closed my eyes as I began to play the familiar notes to Talking to the Moon by Bruno Mars.

“I know you're somewhere out there

Somewhere far away

I want you back

I want you back

My neighbors think

I'm crazy

But they don't understand

You're all I had

You're all I had

At night when the stars

Light up my room

I sit by myself

Talking to the Moon.

Trying to get to You

In hopes you're on
