"Mason," Vanessa purred, "would you like to go out to lunch with me?"

Mason Elliot nodded, barely hearing the desperate girl in front of him. He had had a stressful start to the day at his job, going through tiring meetings and such, and desperately needed his lunch break. Whoever he went with, even if it was alone, was good enough for him.

After graduating college only two years prior, Mason was already heavily employed in the work force. He had a sense of determination and charm that made him easy to work with and someone all businesses looked for.

"Okay, I know of a Cafe a few blocks down-"

"Let's go to Starbucks."

Vanessa seemed a little taken aback, but quickly agreed, mentioning something about grabbing her stuff before she hurried out of his office.

Mason hadn't chosen Starbucks for no good reason - he had chosen it because it was where he often went to get a hot cup of coffee to clear his thoughts. It wasn't just the coffee, he had suspected, but also the person working there. The one employee that was always there.

She was always on shift at noon on the weekdays, bustling around to handle orders. She had beautiful golden hair and striking hazel eyes with big, black rimmed glasses. Although their conversations had been small, Mason always took note of the light blush that graced her cheeks as she did extra prep work when his steaming cup of coffee was just behind the counter, even before he walked in.

Mason had always felt intrigued by her. Unlike other girls, such as Vanessa, she didn't throw herself at him. Instead, she kept to herself mostly and silently watched him as he entered and exited the building. Her name was Callie, or so her name tag read. He thought it was truly beautiful, like her, but had never gotten the chance to mention it. Callie was always too busy and Mason too embarrassed to say something like that in public.

Still, though, he often thought of her to bring a peace of mind whenever he was working on something stressful. For some reason, the mere thought of Callie any day of the week was enough to bring a smile to his face.

So, when Mason headed out that day for what to him was a lunch break with a colleague, he again thought of the mysterious yet beautiful girl that ran the cash register, and all his worries drifted away.

He just hadn't expected something to change with Callie when he entered the Starbucks with Vanessa hanging onto his arm.
