The year is 2022. The United States of America is a Nation Reborn. Unemployment rates are at 1%. Crime has reached an all-time low. Ironically, because of one exception... Thanks to the recently-adopted 28th Amendment to the Constitution, Americans now have the right to an Annual Purge, meaning once a year, for 12 hours, all crime, including robbery, rape, vandalism, and even murder, is legal. Yes, you heard me: legal. As in you can do it without getting in trouble of any kind. Of course, there are a few things you CAN'T do, such as attack the White House or any other government building. You also can't use weapons such as nuclear weapons. It's crazy to think letting people commit crime could cause the nation to better itself, but somehow it managed to happen. Some people look forward to The Purge like it was Christmas. Others fear it and lock themselves in their homes to avoid God-knows what. I used to be the latter; I locked myself up with my family to avoid the death and violence happening all over the country. But that all changed because of last year, on the night of the most recent Purge. My name is James Tate, and this is my Purge story.
