"But daaaaddddd", Gem whined, "I don't want to miss my recital. I've been working sooo hard", she whined again. She had been working for 3 months just to get it right, a long time for a 7 year old, and now her dad was telling her she wasn't going to ballet school anymore, and she also wasn't allowed to go anywhere else. She didn't understand. "Why daddy? You wanted this for me, how come you won't let me go?" she asked, starting to get teary eyed. Her dad finally looked up from the papers in front of him. Not the nice look he used to give her, but a hard, angry look. He gave her a scowl and went back to his papers. Her tears began to flow down her face, and she bit her lip, letting out a whimper, trying not to cry. Her father stood up and picked her up like she was trash he didn't want to touch. He hurried, then threw her on the bed in her room, then closed the door, locking it from the outside. She ran over to the door, banging on it, "Daddy!" she cried. She kept banging on the door until her energy had ran out. She layed against the door, softly crying now, her body weak. Today was supposed to be her recital. Since the other night, when she had realized she was different, he'd hardly look at her, and when he did, it looked like he hated her. She didn't know what she was. She'd always tried to do exactly as she was told. Whatever this was, she thought it'd make her special, but it seemed to be the opposite. Neither of her parents wanted to have anything to do with her, and her siblings just went along, like they always had. She didn't know what was wrong with her. Now she was locked in her room, and she didn't understand why her dad hated her so much now. She'd only ever tried to b perfect, and her parents told her she was so close to being their perfect little girl, but not now. Why couldn't she just be normal? Why did she have to be trash? Gem gave another small whimperish cry as she closed her eyes, still against the door. Everything was different now. Everything changed.
