She sighed and leaned her head back on the couch, suddenly exhausted. Telling this story was necessary, but it drained what little energy she had. “So now you know everything. If you walk away, I understand. Just kiss me before you do and let me savor that sweet memory.” Adam obliged her request for a kiss, and a deep kiss at that, but didn’t leave.
“I’m not going anywhere, beautiful! I am staying right here, and we’re going to send that demon back to where he belongs. You are not to blame for Jaden’s death, and you need to accept that you had no control whatsoever over that situation. You have everything to fear, but I’ve got you, and I won’t let him get to you. If I have to take you to work every day and stay at the hospital until you’re finished, I will. If it takes me sleeping on your couch, or sitting outside your bedroom door with my gun, he won’t get to you. Our neighbors are on our side. While you were asleep, I called both Ned and and Larry and they are willing to help guard the house. In the boondocks, we’re all family. You now have what you didn’t last time: knowledge, and back up!”
She hugged Adam! He made her feel so secure and comforted. She kissed him with a long, desire-filled, heartfelt kiss. She wished for what could never be. Leaving him behind was her best option, but she knew that her heart would stay on a backwoods country dirt road with a certain mechanic. How she would ever tell him, she wasn’t sure, but for now, Renee was content in his arms with his lips covering hers. He broke away from the kiss, but continued kissing her face, her ears, her neck, and then back up again. “Adam!” Renee said his name in a husky, feminine tone, thick with emotions she didn’t want. He didn’t respond, so intense were his kisses. He picked her up and carried her to her room. “Adam! What are you doing?”
“Nothing but carrying you to your room. I would never demand something, anything, you’re not ready to give. I would love to keep kissing you all night, but I don’t think my human nature would let me stop at kisses. If I thought I could do so without taking this too far, I would. And, I want our time, God willing we have it someday, to be so special that you never think of loving anyone but me for the rest of your life. You’re rapidly melting my misgivings about love.”
He kissed her in front of her bedroom door, still cradling her in his arms. The tension was so thick, one could touch it! “I want you so bad, Adam, it hurts. But, I am not willing to go further than where we are right now. I am still holding to my beliefs, even though I had, at one time, gone against them. If God gives us to each other, we will surely be blessed, but now is not the time. I don’t want you to leave me.” With that, they kissed again, but he set her on her feet, not willing to cross the threshold for fear he might lose his mind and let his heart take him too far. The idea that he had to turn around and walk away made him feel like his heart was being ripped out of his chest. He caressed her face, and then her hands, wrists and palms. She leaned her head back, wishing she could be his totally. He kissed her neck and throat, and moaned a sensuous sound. “Adam. I have to say goodnight, or I won’t. I don’t want to do anything that we might regret later. It’s killing me that I can’t be yours fully.” Hunger ripped through her like a lion after its prey. He stepped away, with one last over-the-top kiss then said, “Goodnight, love. I will be dreaming of you, if I sleep at all.” And he walked away. She listened for the door to shut. She walked to the front of the house, locking doors and turning off lights. She pushed the button for the garage door, and heard it make contact with the concrete floor of the garage.
She went to her room and turned on the television. She just relaxed and let her mind wander. Her mind wandered to Adam. She didn’t have to go far to pick up where they left off. She smiled.
The phone rang. She let it ring three times before picking up, like usual.
“Hello?” She wasn’t sure who it was.
“Hey, Renee! It’s Adam. I forgot to say thank you.” Thank you? That’s something no one has ever said after the kissing session they’d just had.
“For what? Kissing you? I enjoyed that too. In fact, I enjoyed that too much.” Adam was laughing, but not a “silly girl” laugh, but he was laughing a laugh that said “I wish we didn’t have to stop.”
“Well, now that you’ve mentioned it, yes. Thank you for that. Delightful is the first word that comes to mind, and we’re not mentioning the rest. I actually wanted to thank you for telling me the whole story. I know it wasn’t easy to remember all of it. You’ve been through too much already. I hope I can help you heal, move past it, and discover that most of us men, even though we’re driven by our passions at times, are not like that evil monster. I, for one, would love to show you exactly how a man should treat a woman. Your past is in the past. The love you shared with Jaden was one-of-a-kind and I don’t blame you for loving him. You made his last day on Earth greater than he could’ve imagined. Are you crying, Renee?”
Sniff: “Yes! You make me feel so secure. And loved. I appreciate your sweet words. I wish I didn’t have to leave. I finally have met someone I think is worth the effort to get to know...”
Adam cut her off: “You don’t have to leave. We will face this together. But, whatever you decide, I will be behind you one hundred percent. Now get some rest, beautiful. I’ll see you in the morning. Kisses. And lots of them. Goodnight.”
“Goodnight Adam. I’m dreaming of your kisses.” And she hung up the phone. She nestled into her pillows, thankful she didn’t have to work tomorrow.
