I got out of home to go to the university and found him at my door’s house, waiting for me, as he always does since we met. He looked at me with his blue eyes that seemed to smile with his lips and I couldn’t help smiling too.

“Good morning.” I said and kissed him on the cheek.

“Morning.” He answered hugging me.

We started walking to the university while Niall talked about his part-time job he had got to pay his bills and the apartment where he lives, since he lost his parents, I’m not sure how, because that was something he didn’t like to talk very much. He is in Mass Communication, just like me, and he works at a small local newspaper, even though, according to him, his dream was way bigger, like the New York Times.

When we got to the university, we went to the classroom, to have our first lesson in the morning, in which I always felt asleep if it wasn’t Niall scratching my book and me getting my revenge like if we were still in the 5th grade.

I met Niall when we were still in the 10th grade and we’re friends since then. He is my best friend and can count on him for a lot, as he can count on me. We are inseparable and we do a lot together like if we were five year old kids, even though we’re on the last year of university.

“Catherine!” Niall shouted shaking his hands right in front of me.

“What?”

“The class is over.”

“Oh, right.” I laughed. “Let’s eat.”

“I never thought it was possible, but I found someone who eats as much as I do. Wow.”

“No. you eat more than I do.” I contradicted him while I got up and grabbed my books, walking slowly to the university’s cafeteria.

“Hmm… I have to disagree with you. Remember that time we made a movie session at your house, with Liam and Danielle? We ordered four pizzas and you ate almost two.”

“That… ok, you ate more than me naturally. If you were a super hero, probably, your power would be eating your enemies.”

“What? Where did you- I won’t even ask.” He said shaking his head, but, deep down, trying not to laugh.

“I’m just talking hypothetically.”

“You see a lot of movies.”

“It’s your fault.”

“I don’t-“

“Niall! Finally, I’ve been looking for you since I got here.” I heard Mary’s voice sounding right behind me, before she jostling me discreetly, but not discreet at all with her hips and hitting me with her perfectly straight blonde hair when she shook it.

“Maybe I was having classes, Mary. What do you want?”

“Come one. Don’t talk to me like that, baby.” He said and I rolled my eyes. “The senior year prom. I still don’t have a pair.” She hugged his neck blinking so fast, if she wasn’t careful, her eyelashes would burn. Something that I would, certainly, pay to see.

“There’s still six months left.”

“Yes, but you can already ask me, I don’t mind.”

“I’m not coming.”

“What? How’s that?”

“Not coming, staying home and watching a good movie.” Niall answered and I tried not laughing.

“You know if you go you can be the kind, right?” She asked with her voice raising by her shock. “I’m going to be the queen for sure.” She looked up and down at me this time. “And you’re going to be my king. We’re the perfect pair.”

“The problem is that I don’t want to.”

“But-“

“Bye, Mary.”

Me and Niall left Mary talking to herself and went to order our food and sat on a table eating. However, I wanted to know if what he said about not wanting to go was really true or not.

“What you said to her is true?” I asked.

“About the fact there’s still six months for the prom?”

“No, about you not going.”

“I don’t know.” He shrugged. “I want to be king so much.” He mocked and I laughed.

“Niall.”

“Hm.”

“I’m serious.”

“Me too. There’s still six months, if I get a pair till there, I’m going.”

If? Niall, you’re like really popular between girl, you just need to say you don’t have a pair they’ll run to you.”

“Maybe I’m waiting for that girl.” He said bending over the table, piercing my soul with his shinny blue eyes.

“Hm…” Was all I said, looking to the floor, because his look was making me nervous.

The bell rang and me and Niall went to the classroom where we were having our next class. I sighed already sitting in my place, which made him look at me.

“In love?”

“No.” I laughed.

“Hm.”

What he said left me thinking. I liked to go to the prom… with him, because his my best friend and thought that’s what he’d do, but he told me he was waiting for that girl, so, probably, he’s going with her or he’s not going at all. But I wanted him to come, even if it was alone, because it’s a special day and I wanted him to be there. Maybe I’m being selfish…

Besides, the prom is in the end of the school year and this is our last year, who know what’s going to happen when he leave the university, who know if each of us will follow their path and we will never see each other again or never speak to each other again.

I know, I’m exaggerating, but I like to think on all hypothesis.

Now that I think about it, who’s going to be may prom pair? I think I’m still on time of being asked by someone. If anyone asks me… because I’m not as popular as Niall, not as beautiful as him…
