"Mudsdale! Use Earthquake!"
"Decidueye! Fly up and dodge!"
Ash and Poni Islands' new Kahuna, Hapu, were battling during Ash's final Grand Trial before he went to the Alola League. Both Hapu and Ash were both down to their last Pokémon. Pikachu, who was standing at Ash's feet, was jumping up and down and yelling at the top of its lungs.
Ash's friends, Mallow, Kiawe, Sophocles, Lana, and Lillie were watching from the side of the battlefield.
"This may be Hapu's first battle as the Kahuna," Kiawe said. "But she's giving it everything she has."
"GO ASH!!!!" Mallow screamed.
"Use Spirit Shackle!" Ash yelled.
Decidueye grabbed one of its green string-like feathers with its wing, forming a sort of bow, before it plucked off one of its arrow-like feathers and nocked its "bow".
Decidueye launched the quill at Mudsdale. The quill zipped past the Draft Horse Pokémon, but twisted around in a loop and embedded itself at the ground in front of it, on its shadow. The arrow then exploded. Decidueye landed on the ground.
"Mudsdale!! It's time!" Hapu yelled. Her Z-Ring started glowing. She crossed her arms, then spun in a circle and planted one hand on the ground and the other in the air. She was surrounded by a flaring yellow aura.
A yellow energy flew from Hapu's Z-Ring and enveloped Mudsdale, and it's eyes flashed with determination.
"TECTONIC RAGE!!" Hapu shouted.
Mudsdale glowed orange, then turned around and bucked the ground. Huge cracks appeared in the battlefield, and the ground split under Decidueye, causing it to plummet into the earth. Mudsdale charged into the crack after Decidueye, ramming and driving it further into the earth's mantle. For a second, both Pokémon were unseen, and huge tremors caused the field to bounce up and down.
Suddenly, in an explosion of lava, Decidueye and Mudsdale flew out of the Earth's crust. Mudsdale landed on its hooves in front of Hapu, and Decidueye fell face-first onto the ground.
"Decidueye!" Ash exclaimed, concerned.
Decidueye slowly got up and nodded determinedly at Ash. Ash grinned.
"Now it's our turn!" He yelled. The Decidium Z on his Z-Ring glowed an eerie green. He crossed his arms in before curling his hands into claws and thrust them outward. He too was enveloped in a yellow aura.
The same energy jetted from Ash's Z-Ring and began to swirl around Decidueye, who began to glow with an eerie green.
With renewed strength, it zipped into the air, countless quills flying from its wings.
With a cry, it dove down at Mudsdale at an incredible speed, its arrows whirling around it.
"SINISTER ARROW RAID!!" Ash shouted.
Before Hapu could react, Decidueye had already struck Mudsdale, and a shower of explosive arrows followed. The arrows detonated in a purple and green flash and shrouded the field in smoke.
When the smoke cleared, Mudsdale was lying on the ground, unconscious.
"Mudsdale is unable to battle," the Referee called out. "Which means that the victor is Ash, the challenger!"
All of Ash's friends cheered loudly, while Ash let out a loud whoop of victory.
Hau stood stunned for a brief moment, before grinning to herself. She returned Mudsdale and walked up to Ash, who was petting a coping Decidueye.
"Ash," The young Kahuna said, smiling. "That battle was amazing. I couldn't ask for a better first battle as Kahuna of Poni Island! Now then..." Hapu reached into her pocket and pulled out a brownish-orange Z-Crystal. "Here's the Groundium Z."
"Thanks, Hapu," Ash said, taking the crystal.
"Now go beat the Alola League!" Hapu said encouragingly.
"I will!" Ash said.
He gave Hapu a friendly wave before stepping off the battlefield, where he was promptly swarmed by his friends.
"Congratulations, Ash!" Lana exclaimed.
"Now you can participate in the Alola League!" Lillie cheered.
"Since it's the first Alola League ever, it's a really big deal," Sophocles said. "Whoever wins is the Champion of Alola!"
"Yeah," Ash said. "I'm so psyched! But for now, let's go back to the Pokémon Center. I'm wiped out. We set out for the League tomorrow!"

Ash and his friends got up early the next day and started making their way to the dock. The League was going to be held on Melemele Island, and they would have to board a boat to get there.
When the group was halfway through Vast Poni Canyon, they were blocked by a group of teenagers wearing familiar black bandannas over their mouths, skull beanies, and floppy black shirts and pants accented with white. Dangling from their necks were silver chains adorned with a pendant shaped like a letter S.
"Team Skull," Ash growled. His friends tended at his side, glaring warily at the mob of grunts.
Just then, a girl who looked significantly older than the other grunts emerged from the crowd. Her long pink and yellow hair was pulled into two ponytails by two skull-shaped clips. She wore a short black tank top and floppy black pants with a white zigzag line running down the sides. A pink Team Skull logo was tattooed across her stomach.
"That's them! They're the people who've been attacking us!" One of the grunts yelled.
After hearing that, the girl's already angry expression became even more furious. If looks could kill, Ash and the others would be dead. Dead and ripped into a million pieces.
"Oh, crap," Ash muttered.
