It's Complicated

Chapter 1

"Today's going to be a good day." I told myself. I was not going to let my asshole of a brother bring me down again.

I put on some blue skinny jeans and a grey sweater with a crown on it. It had been almost a year since my dad died. Even though he was a drug addict, he was better than my brother, Kai. I brushed my hair and teeth and put some makeup on, not a lot but enough to hide the bruises on my cheek. I came down the steps and saw Kai sitting there, eating breakfast.

"Hey Kai." I said to him, trying to be nice.

"Hey sis. I see you covered up your face, wouldn't want anyone to think I was hitting you now would we." He said with a smug smirk on his face. Oh how much I wanted to smack that smirk off his face.

"Well gotta go, bye." I said to Kai, not making eye contact with him. I rushed out of the door and started down the sidewalk to school.

It was Friday, thankfully. It was the first week of school and people have already called me a nerd. I sighed and opened my iPhone, looking for texts, I had none. I put my phone in my back pocket as I walked through the front door of high school. The halls were crowded, Jocks and popular kids on the right and the nerds on the left.

Sadly my locker was on the right so I had to pass the popular people who bully me to get there. I accidentally bumped into a jock, I think his name was Adam.. yeah Adam and my books fell on the floor.

"Watch it nerd." Adam exclaimed before walking off.

I sighed and bent down to pick up my books. Another pair of hands showed up and I looked up to see Veronica bending down across from me.

"Veronica!!" I said with excitement. I got up and gave her a big hug. Whenever she's around I don't get bullied as much.

"Miss me?" She said. "Of course I did!" I replied.

She gave me my books back.

"Thanks." I said. I opened my locker and put my last three classes books in.

"So how was France?" I asked her. She went to France for the entire summer and wasn't supposed to be back until next week.

"It was great. Met some hot french guys there." Veronica replied, smiling. I shook my head while laughing.

Veronica wasn't your typical popular bitch. She was super nice to everyone, which is probably why she is popular. She's also super pretty.

"Hey, so skip last three classes okay." Veronica said.

"What!! I'm not skipping class." I replied

"Oh C'mon there's a party tonight, your brother is pretty successful so he definitely has enough money for us to get stuff at the mall." Veronica said to me.

"No. I'm not skipping." I said to her.

"Jace will be at this party. This is a perfect time to get you out of your comfort zone." Veronica practically whined.

I bit my lower lip. I've never skipped class before.

"C'mon Clary, live a little." Veronica begged.
