81.

"I am so relieved that you are okay," I complete my sentence.

She looks at me, bewildered.

After a moment, she questions again, in a quieter voice, "Why are you doing this for me, Aiden?"

I don't know what to answer. I keep quiet.

She loosens up a bit realizing I am not comfortable being questioned. We both do not meet each other's eyes.

I stare at the dustbin and she has suddenly gotten interested in an ugly stone lying on the road. I clear my throat after moments of pregnant silence.

"You leaving for school?"

She nods, still not looking at me.

"I have to go too. Mr.Jackson is gonna slit my throat if I miss one more class." She laughs at my statement. A feeble laugh, but still a laugh.

Happiness.
