Seems familiar...
---------

I have a feeling that the birds that appeared on episode 22 are a reference to chapter 4's front page (( if you haven't already, I recommend checking out my analysis "Episode 22 + 21: The sky = Mika's eyes" )).

I had watched the anime before reading the manga, so I used to think that the birds were some sort of anime-original creative idea. But, now knowing it as otherwise, it makes me like the bird symbolism even more.

Considering that Yuu is looking up at the sky while thinking about his family, I'd like to think that every once in awhile, when Yuu would look up at the sky, he would be thinking of a certain someone...

-----------

(Unsurprising, since Yuu's thought of him at least once or twice per chapter of the four we read so far.)

Anyway, the birds in chapter 4 may represent the unknown (or vampires) that Mika is with.

The birds are heading in a direction away from Yuu, suggesting that Mika is quite far away somewhere. Yuu looks towards that direction, looking as if he's longing for something.

Yuu is also holding his sword. His body is facing away from the window and towards the school hallway, suggesting that he is eventually going to walk off somewhere for some sort of duty. That duty I suspect is to kill the vampires.

For whom? For the person he apparently had a promise with and still looks at the sky for, of course.
