xxxiii. act thirty-three

"Lance? What are
You doing
Here?"
June asked,
Her brown eyes wide.
"If Grover
Catches you-"
I stopped her,
And quickly
Closed the door.
"She won't."
I whispered,
Taking off
Her helmet
And placing it on the
Table.
"We have to leave."
I said,
Shoving
Some face paint
Utensils
Into my bag,
And gratefully
Slipping on
My black skull
Helmet.
The one I'd
Gotten
From Stiles,
Who was
Dead.
It covered everything
On my face
Except my eyes,
Something
I always appreciated.
It was
Intimidating.
June's eyes widened,
As I picked up my
Bow and arrows.
"What?
Where?"
She asked,
Bewildered.
"Skaikru."
I said,
After a few heartbeats.
June looked at me
Like I was crazy,
Because maybe
I was.
"Skaikru?"
She repeated
Shaking her head.
"No."
I sighed.
"June, please.
I can't be there
Without you."
I pleaded
Desperately.
"You made your
Decision, Lance.
Let me
Make mine.
I'm Trikru."
June answered,
Her eyes
Still wide.
I bit my lip,
And took an extra
Heavy black
Coat,
Then turned
Back to her.
"I'm not Skaikru."
I protested.
"I killed
Four of their
People.
For Dell,
Stiles,
Terri,
Pearce."
I admired, buttoning
Up
The coat.
June finally
Glared at me.
"You even
Look like
One of them."
She whispered,
Closing her eyes.
And I
Realized
That she
Was right.
"Where
Is Anya?"
I asked,
Coming closer,
And putting
My hand
On her shoulder.
June didn't shrug
It off,
Which was a good
Sign.
"Anya
Is dead.
Killed by
The Mountain Men."
She said,
And I felt dread
Slowly rise
In my chest.
"The Mountain Men?"
I repeated,
In disbelief.
"But I saw her
Jump
Inside
The Skaikru
Dropship."
June nodded.
"They were
All
Taken."
She muttered,
Before turning
And walking away,
Letting my hand fall.
"Grover became
Her Second,
When it was discovered
You fled."
I blinked
At this statement.
"I didn't run away."
I said, shaking my head.
"I was
Going
To come back."
June turned back around.
"Then talk to
Grover.
Tell
Him
That."
She replied,
Looking at the door.
"I will."
I whispered.
Because maybe
All hope
Of becoming
Second
Had not
Been lost.
