"The weather is refreshing here!" He said on the phone quietly suppressing his excitement. It was brief but the words were enough to wake her up from the sleep. Unlike him she exclaimed in excitedness, "What? Are you here? Where the hell are you?" These were the questions that she bombarded one after another. Still in the hangover of his 40 hours journey, he was trying to figure out what to say but sadly found himself helpless. In a faint voice he said "I am near the arts building". A big smile came over her face and she giggled a bit after hearing that. She told to wait there and quickly hung up the call.
A plethora of thoughts started circling around his head that how she will be, how she will be looking, if she would have grown taller than him. And why not? It's been around four years since he had seen her and from the past two and a half he fell for her. Needless to say someone needs more than a hell lot of motivation to travel down for 40 hours in this scorching heat of summer. Finally the moment arrived and he was able to see her coming from a distance. Yes the girl whom he admired in her pictures was alive in front of him. She was still in her night attire. It was a white trouser with purple dots, a dark red top with something in cursive written on it. The big spectacle and a bundle of hair tucked behind with little strands of hair came down her face made him exclaim "Wow! Beautiful". They both were smiling and blushing at each other but none started the conversation. Sensing the nervousness around she tried to break the ice by saying "You have lost weight!" for which he replied back "You have grown shorter!" after thinking for a while. Time didn't stop, No violins playing in the background. It wasn't even raining. Nothing romantic but among the numerous tides to come it was the beginning of a wave, a stepping stone of the memories that they both were going to create.
They started the day with a visit to a museum. Yes! First date in a museum as she was much into historical things and thus he could hear her demonstrating about the historical sculpture an artifact and that's what happened. The excitedness lightened her face every time she saw an art or handcrafts. And at times while she was busy explaining stuffs he would steal some time to have a look over her. The strands of hair never looked more demanding than before. The little sweat on her forehead sparkled every time like diamonds and the distant stars which never want to descend from the sky.
The day ended and the time for him to leave came closer. The office didn't allow him much to spend time on vacations. The journey to the railway station was tense and sad. She was looking outside of the window of the car with her hands on her lap. He was also becoming restless as the time to leave her came closer. Then in this hour of trouble out of the blue the guy got the courage from the hour of separation he instinctively sought for her hand and held them. A sudden stroke pumped his veins which directly went to his heart. With that single touch they both could feel their fast beating heart. All the sadness and darkness surrounded vanished as it brought peace in their hearts and they started laughing and blushing again as they have met for the first time. He whispered looking out of the window still his hands with her "I have been waiting for a long to do that".
The train was standing at the station. She was adamant that she wants to see him off so any attempt against it would go in vain. They both spotted the coach, S-10, Seat no. 40 upper berth. He kept his backpack on the seat. The train was a bit crowded so they decided to go out. Not was much was spoken. Not much was heard. They were quite. She finally said sleep and eat well. I don't date guys who are skinny and of dark circles around the eyes. He smiled and replied that he will. She asked when you will be back. He replied may be in three to four months. She didn't say anything after that and somewhere in the silence the train honked and gave its final whistle. He boarded the train and held her hand for last time. The train started to come in motion. He made a sign from a distance to call him when she reaches home safely.
If you think rain, chocolates and red roses are romantic you should have watched them looking at each other when the train was leaving. No hugs, no kisses, no feelings of their skin but it doesn't need all that.
