*Present*

She came home after a tiring day at tuition.
She reached for the phone on her bed and pulled up Wattpad. Scrolling through her favourite story, she smiled as the characters she loved tiptoed around each other, flirting subtly. Her fangirl heart fluttered as they stole kisses and held hands.
She was smiling when her mother barged into her room. She groaned. This is why I need a door.

Sadly, her parents did not believe in doors separating family.

"What are you doing??!! You're supposed to be studying you ungrateful little..."

"I just got back from a 6 hour class!"

"So?? It's what we paid for!"

"I'm just taking a break. It's not like I'm failing!"

"Oh you will fail alright, if you get yourself into shit again.."
Here we go again

*2013*

She had started her first class with actual, other people her age. It was for her mother language, to help her with O/Ls, of which the deep grammar proved quite confusing with its 60-letter alphabet.

She was grateful for her parents letting her go here, where the bane of society, according to them, also went. Boys.

Yes, boys.

Being a very very cultured & modest country with a truckload of taboos, it was normal to have parents who were paranoid of their children interacting with peers of the opposite gender. God help them if they were gay.

But it was the 21st century, and people were slowly adjusting to the new world. But sadly, her parents were not among them. Which is why this would be practically the first time she would be sitting within a one meter radius of boys who were not related to her.

Her heart fluttered with excitement as she met up with her friends by the gate. After being dropped off by her parents, of course. She didn't mind though.

She smiled at her two friends. Vinu & Kavi had been by her side for as long as she could remember. She couldn't imagine a life without them.

"Hey!"

"Hi Yo!"

She giggled at the nickname.

"So how do I register?"

Her friends had been coming to the class for a while now, and took her through registration & found a bench for them near the middle of the hall, which looked like about 70 people were already there.

They started chatting about the endless weird & wonderful stuff they always managed to find about. They talked about the going-ons in their school, which was a private, all-girls one where drama queens were abundant.

Then Vinu's boyfriend -secret, of course- came and introductions were made an she stared in awe and shook hands with a boy for the first time.

She blushed and moved away. Then they all had to quieten down as the teacher came and started the class.

She liked it. She understood everything, as usual and she enjoyed the master's daring humour as well. It was a good day.

She went home with her parents that day with a light heart, and nothing her mother said could change that.
