Chapter VIII

I know I told her I wanted to stay here, but....
Alexandru sighed.
This is just boring!
He flopped onto the arm of the couch.  What was he supposed to do with himself all day? 
Crap.
He sat for a while, thinking.  What sorts of things did humans do for fun? 
"Ugh!"
He flopped backwards onto the couch and closed his eyes.  He let his mind drift back to that morning.

"Hey, wait, where are you going?"
Seira sighed.  "I've got to go to school..."
He just gave her a blank stare.  Seira smacked her forehead with her palm.  Don't tell me he doesn't know what...
"Um, you do know what school is, right?"
He looked around the room, whistling a little and avoiding her gaze.
Great...
"School's where you go to learn things....Teachers give lessons in different subjects...."
He furrowed his eyebrows.  "So like a tutor?"
She rolled her eyes.  "Oh.  Nobles are rich enough to have private tutors.  I forgot."
Alexandru flinched inside.  That sarcasm is painful....
"So..." he said.  "You're going to school?"
Seira sighed.  "Yes..."
"Um...so what am I supposed to do all day...?"
"Well, I mean, I guess you could come to school with me, but you could stay here...."
"...Would school be boring?"
She shrugged.  "Depends on whether or not you enjoy listening to lectures..."
He thought a moment.  "I guess I'll just stay here then."
"Suit yourself." She spun around and marched out the front door.

He rolled off the couch and slumped into the kitchen.  This is so boring...
He sighed.  Even school would have been better than this...
By the time Seira got back, he still had yet to do anything.
"So, did you enjoy staying here today?" she asked.
He shrugged.  "Yeah, I guess it was okay..."
She smiled.  "Good!  So what did you do all day?"
"Um...."
She turned to him, an eyebrow raised.  "Alexandru?"
"Um, Seira?"
"Yeah?"
He slumped and looked at the ground.
"Do you think I could...go to school with you tomorrow...?"
