Chapter One: Welcome to Velonia

After the war against some big countries, it was said that Velonia rose from a powerful country that lost during the war, so nobody bothered to record the name it once had. This is where damnation exists, poverty arises, and the powerful starts to abuse. This is where the ‘Bountyhunters’ existed.

Meet Korion Trinidad, a rich man who offered a great amount of money in exchange of Wilfred Guzara’s head who killed his wife and son. After that, people started running to him and offering different types of fortune that they have to get revenge on those who had abused them too. This gave Korion the idea to make it a business or rather a hobby because the poor can’t pay. Generous enough, he let everyone post a criminal’s whereabouts on a bulletin board and get them hunted by bountyhunters. Yes, he opened an underground society for bountyhunting operations. Though some of the posts are lacking of information such as the name of what we call the ‘target’. There are also ‘researchers’ who provide information and other names. Aside from the fact that we are the enemy of the criminals, we are also hunted by the police and military men. That’s why we are underground. They are totally against our law of dead or alive, so they catch bountyhunters too. But they never dared to raid a headquarters and catch the very popular Mr. Korion because he turns over living catches of bountyhunters to the police. In exchange, he takes the compensation offered by the police for those who turns over criminals.

That’s why Korion’s offer for living criminals is not that generous.

Why there are more reports to Bountyhunting because the poor trusts us better. We are more efficient unlike the police who sometimes overlook the poor’s squeals. And that they never targeted big people like Arthur Fran Sulviman.

“What a monster we have over there,” muttered Inseska Louvrefold who was in the same table with me and Korion. She is a professional bountyhunter. She wore that ripped denim jeans and blue tank top. Her long curly hair was blonde and her eyes were remarkably amber. I don’t know what class of hunters does she belong to but she seemed so strong.

     I am Lyracus Cellavausart.

My first day as a bountyhunter, I was so popular and talk of the tongue since yesterday for being on class A of hunters, the top class with my first kill. I don’t actually fight, it’s just some luck that I killed Crozun Salendazzi yesterday. I don’t talk to anyone because nobody looked trustworthy in here, so nobody really knew what happened, though I was still popular until today for getting the top bounty. I used the money to pay for a decent apartment, bountyhunter’s registration, new clothes, food and… I’m still deciding whether I’m going to buy a weapon or not.

“That makes the second highest bounty this month after Crozun yesterday. This pretty girl’s kill,” he gestured a hand at me. “What’s her name again? Lycel? Yes, The girl who carried Crozun Salendazzi’s corpse on her shoulder. Now we have this little boy bathed in blood who beheaded Arthur Fran Sulviman,”

“What’s your name, boy?” asked Myani.

He got no answer. We could just hear them because our table is just in front of counter sixteen. The boy just threw Sulviman’s head on the counter before Myani’s face.

“Someone take this head!” he shouted while covering his big nose.

Then he sighed again, “What's your name?”

“I don’t have a name,” he answered in a low volume.

That made us all from our table look at him. Myani groused, “I need a name so I can get you registered and give you your tab. What do they call you?”
