"Pondwater," Cassiopeia heard Clark call. She looked up from her chair, her science notebook covered in doodles of Olympus and Greek Gods. "Can you please come up and tell me the chemical properties of fire?" he said. The disguised satyr raised an eyebrow. She knew the look well. You are here to protect and serve- and listen to me.
"Carbon dioxide, water vapor, oxygen and nitrogen, sir," Cassiopeia answered. She remembered doing as much research on the subject of fire as much as she could. She wanted to know what would cause the reaction she had when somebody touched her arm- which, at the moment, was bandaged up. It had been nearly three years since the incident, but she didn't want anybody asking what happened.
When the bell rang for lunch, she got up, shutting her science notebook and stuffing it in her small bag, throwing it over her shoulder. Cassie's blonde hair was longer than it had been for the past decade, laying around her shoulders in her natural curls. Her blue eyes studied the people in front of her as she walked out.
"Hey!" she heard someone call. Cassiopeia decided to ignore it, thinking it wasn't for her. "Pondwater girl!"
The nickname set her off. She growled and looked back, only to be met with a friendly face. "I hate that name," Cassiopeia said, not wanting to be super aggressive to someone who looked like he was trying to be nice. "With a passion." "I'm sorry," the boy replied. She took a minute to look over him as they walked.
He had curly black hair, and a mischievous smile. He had tan skin, but his eyes stood out to her. Cassie decided not to look at them any further. She continued walked faster, trying to avoid more social interaction than she wanted. "Wait! What's your real name?" the mystery boy asked, looking at her face. "Cassiopeia," she said. "Do people call you Cassie?" he suddenly asked. Cassie sighed, "yes." "Oh. Cool! Do you want to sit with me during lunch?"
At first, Cassiopeia felt unsure. Was she to trust this guy? Or was he just another monster? She saw Clark in the doorway, with his big jeans and sweatshirt. The baseball cap he always wore covered his horns. It was weird seeing him this way. He glanced at the boy next to her and nodded. Safe.
"Sure," she said, shrugging. The boy smiled, and it was almost contagious- that wide, troublemaker grin. The corners of the blonde's lips turned upwards as they walked to lunch together.
"So, what are you in for?" the boy asked her. Cassiopeia sighed, and remembered her cover story. "Child porn," she joked. The boy's eyes widened, "Dear lor-" "I'm kidding," Cassie interrupted, walking into the lunch room and following the mystery person to his table, where there was another girl. "Hi! I'm Rebecca," she smiled. Cassie smiled back politely.
Rebecca was a girl of average size, and height, with straight blonde hair that was currently in a ponytail, presumably because of the science lab, which meant she didn't have Clark Hence as her teacher. Cassiopeia watched as she took her hair out, setting the rubber band around her wrist. "Dustin, why didn't you tell me about her," she smirked at the boy. Cassiopeia's heart almost skipped a beat.
Dustin was a very nice name.
