Rriiiiing!!! The sound of the clock wakes me up. Geez! I'm still sleepy. I climb out of bed, excited because today marks my first day at school. As a transfer student, I need to arrive early, especially since my scholarship is at stake.
Stanford Academy—a prestigious institution in town—enrolls sons and daughters from some of the wealthiest families around the globe. Unlike them, I'm not rich; my scholarship supports me.
By the way, I'm Aya Rodriguez, 18 years old. My body figure? Hmmm... slim, with long hair and big eyeglasses. As for my weight, let's not even go there.
As I approach the school, a massive gate looms before me. "Seriously? Is this a school or a prison?" I mutter, feeling the weight of curious stares. "What in the world do they want from me?" I wonder as I walk down the hallway.
A group of ladies gathers in a certain spot, and curiosity gets the better of me. I approach and see a tall guy—just tall. "Is he a celebrity or what?" I think, but he doesn't capture my attention.
As I'm about to leave, the tall man looks directly at me. "Wait, he's looking at me? Why? Eh? He smiled?" I continue walking, avoiding eye contact, and then...
THUD!!
I collide with something metal. Can I survive four whole school years here?
My phone beeps—a text message from my best friend, Anna. She's a rich girl who's been at Stanford since elementary school.
From: 0927******
Hey?! What are you doing?! The class will start any minute now!
Crap! I forgot—I need to hurry! I sprint down the hallway and reach my classroom just as the teacher stands up. "Phew! That was close!"
Anna waves me over, and I rush to her seat. "What happened?"
"Huh? Nothing. I just ran into something, hehe."
Mrs. Ramirez addresses the class. "Before we begin, we have a new classmate, Aya."
"Yes, ma'am! Hello, everyone. I'm Aya. Pleased to meet you all." My eyeglasses fall, and my classmates burst into laughter. "Seriously? What's so funny?" I retort.
"Weirdo! Nerdy! Hahaha," Student1 mocks.
Mrs. Ramirez intervenes. "Enough! Aya, you may now sit down."
"Don't mind them, friend," Anna whispers.
"Tss! I know," I reply.
After class, we head to the cafeteria. Mid-conversation, everyone in the cafeteria suddenly screams!
"Wha-!"
Even Anna is taken aback.
"Anna! Shush! You're hurting my ears!" I scold her.
"Oh, I'm sorry, my dear. I just can't help it," she apologizes.
"What's happening?" I wonder, following her gaze. And there he is—the man I saw earlier.
"Uh, it's him. He's pretty famous, huh? Anna, who is he?"
Anna finally snaps out of her daze. "You don't know him?!"
"Excuse me? I'm a transfer student here, you know."
"Oh, sorry. Anyway, his name is Kyo Ramirez—the most handsome and richest student in the academy."
"Ahh, I see."
"What do you think of him?"
"He's just an average-looking guy. Let's not exaggerate things like 'handsome.'"
"I shouldn't have asked you," Anna sighs.
I glance at him once more. He looks familiar. Oh, he catches me looking, and he smiles.
"Huh? I thought he was a cold person."
"Anna, let's go."
"Uh? Okay."
As we part ways after class, I decide to walk home. But then, a black car stops behind me, and they... take me?!
(Few hours later)
"Okay, and here's item number 26," a voice announces.
What's going on? I slowly open my eyes. Where am I? What is this place? Wait! What's this?
"This item 26 is very talented and very smart," the voice continues.
What? Item? Me? I try to stand up, but my feet are chained, and my hands are tied. I can't break free!
"Who wants to have her?" the auctioneer asks.
People raise their big cards with numbers. Why is there a dollar sign? Don't tell me—I'm in an... auction?!
They keep raising their cards: 50 million dollars, 100 million dollars, 200 million dollars' worth.
I cry. Please stop. My tears won't cease. But then someone shouts:
"700 MILLION DOLLARS!"
I was so shocked by that amount, and the crowd's murmurs echoed through the hall. I scanned the room, and when my eyes landed on him, my jaw dropped. I couldn't believe it.
"Oh, it's the young master," someone whispered.
Young master? What was happening?
"Are there any demands from the crowd?" the announcer asked. Silence followed.
"Okay, it's finally decided. Item number 26 is now the young master's property!"
Property? Panic surged within me as the announcer finished his speech. Bodyguards appeared, escorting me to a beautiful and luxurious car. Then, someone spoke, and I jumped in surprise.
"What the heck?!"
He merely smiled at me.
"You?!! What the hell do you think you're doing?!"
"Is that the proper way to greet someone you've just met?"
"What are you doing?! Who are you?"
"I'm Kyo Ramirez. From now on, you'll stick to me wherever I go and whenever I want."
"As if! Let me go!"
"No... no... no... I bought you for 700 million dollars. You should obey me, or else..."
"Or else what?!"
"I will kill your family. I can do that in an instant."
Speechless, I didn't want them involved. "That's good. Don't talk back to your master, Ms. Aya Rodriguez."
My body felt heavy, as if I were carrying a barbell in my chest. I still didn't understand what was going on. I closed my eyes and fell asleep.
