Matt decided to sleep on Edd's couch that night. Edd was just so depressed, and Matt would never forgive himself if something happened to him while he wasn't there. However, Matt had actually forgotten that he had decided to stay the night at Edd's apartment, leading to quite a bit of confusion the next morning.
"Whose couch is this...? Wait, it smells like cola, okay so I'm at Edd's place! Huh... why did I stay the night again?" Matt mumbled to himself. His thoughts were interrupted by the sound of heavy footsteps heading in his direction. He looked up to see Edd trudging past him to the kitchen. Edd's hair seemed even worse than yesterday, and he looked incredibly tired... did he even get any sleep last night? Despite Edd's appearance, Matt couldn't help but smile a little. Rather than change into his normal sleepwear, Edd wore Matt's hoodie to bed, a small fact that sent a strange feeling through Matt's heart that he just couldn't explain.
"Matt? Are you alright?" Edd asked, leaning on the counter.
"Hm? Oh yes! I'm alright!" Matt chuckled.
"Are you sure? You've been staring at me for at least twenty minutes..."
"Is that so? Well uh... I'm good, just fine,"
"Whatever you say, I think I'm going to make some bacon, do you want some?"
"Bacon? Sure but... are you in any shape to cook?"
"What do you mean?" Edd asked. Matt got up from the couch and walked over to Edd, who looked much worse up close.
"Edd, how much sleep did you get last night?" Matt sighed.
"Enough," Edd replied.
"Really? How much do you think is enough?" Matt crossed his arms.
"Thirty minutes..." Edd nearly whispered.
"Okay, nope, I am not letting you cook!" Matt grabbed Edd's sleeve and dragged him towards the couch, throwing him down onto it and throwing a blanket over him.
"Matt! I'm fine!" Edd complained.
"No Edd, you're not, just sit here and relax okay? I'll make us some bacon," Matt replied, walking back to the kitchen.
"Matt can you even cook?" Edd shouted from the living room.
"Of course I can cook!" Matt shouted back. Honestly, Matt could cook MOST of the time. Matt was strange when it came to certain skills, he was only able to do certain things under certain circumstances. He could do practically anything if it had something to do with wanting to help Edd through a rough time. As Matt began cooking, he let some of his thoughts take him into yet another daydream. It was odd, Edd was always trying to get Matt to hang out with him now that they live in seperate apartments, well not just him, there was also some third guy who... Matt can't really remember the name of right now. Anyways, Matt would normally turn down Edd's offer, but now? He would give anything to hear Edd's cheerful voice ask him to hang out. As much as he loved being near Edd right now, the situation they were in was hardly ideal. Matt sighed and managed to focus his attention back on the bacon he had apparently finished cooking. He put each slice on one big plate for him and Edd to share between the two of them. He picked up the plate and walked over to the couch, sitting next to Edd. Edd stared in awe as Matt set a perfectly cooked plate of bacon on the coffee table in front of them.
"You... didn't set the apartment on fire," Edd chuckled.
"Hey! I'm offended!" Matt grinned. Edd reached over and grabbed a piece of bacon off the plate, smiling as he took a bite.
"Wow," Edd's smile grew wider.
"Is it good?" Matt asked.
"It's fantastic! Since when could you cook?!" Edd laughed.
"Hm..." Matt was trying hard to remember when he had learned to cook, but was having no luck. Edd saw the concentrated look on Matt's face, and sighed.
"Matt you don't actually have to answer, I know your memory is practically nonexistent," Edd frowned.
"Sorry..." Matt had a sad look on his face. Rather than get upset, Edd saw this as a perfect opportunity.
"Hey Matt?"
"Yeah?"
"Don't go bacon my heart," Edd grinned.
"I couldn't if I fried!" Matt desperately held back his laughter, but ultimately failed, nearly falling off of the couch.
"Nice," Edd chuckled.
"That was a good one!" Matt admitted.
"Thanks, but I think your response was even better!" Edd laughed. They sat there in silence for awhile, occasionally reaching over to grab another slice of bacon. Matt looked to his left, down at Edd. He had a relaxed look on his face, he seemed... blissful. Matt couldn't be happier in that moment, he knew that eventually they'd have to get up and actually come up with a plan for Tim, but right now Matt just wanted to sit back and enjoy this rare moment. Edd was a kind, talented, and hilarious guy, and he didn't deserve any of these horrible emotions he's been subjected to lately. Matt knew that he'd have to help Edd find Tam at any costs!
"I'm sorry," Matt sighed. Edd looked up at Matt.
"What?" He asked.
"Edd, I'm sorry you've had to go through all of this, you don't deserve it," Matt began voicing his thoughts.
"Why are you apologizing? It's not your fault Tom's gone,"
"It is! I knocked over that stupid potion! Losing Tom has pretty much broken your heart, and it's my fault!" Tears began filling Matt's eyes. Edd was in shock, not only had Matt suddenly remembered Tom's name, he was blaming himself for everything!
"Stop it... Stop it right now Matt! None of this is your fault!" Edd shouted. Matt stopped and couldn't help but stare at Edd, surprised by his random outburst. Edd jumped up and hugged Matt as tight as humanly possible.
"Edd..." Matt was still crying, but he was trying to stop himself.
"Shush, I don't want to hear you say another bad thing about yourself!" Edd sighed, not letting Matt go. Matt wrapped his arms around Edd, responding to the hug. They stayed like that for what felt like an eternity, however it was actually five minutes. They finally released each other.
"Thanks Edd..." Matt smiled.
"Don't mention it, now are we going to finish this plate of bacon or what? It's just sitting there! Bacon me crazy!" Edd laughed. Matt grinned, and they went back to their previous moment of silence and occasional bacon eating. Matt suddenly felt a weight on his shoulder, he realized that Edd must have finally fallen asleep. Matt sighed and shifted himself slightly so that Edd was using Matt's chest as a pillow. Matt held Edd close and drifted off to sleep, feeling nothing but happiness.

Huh, well would you look at that EddMatt? I may or may not have fallen asleep halfway through writing this, so it's quality may or may not come into question, sorry! I'm actually pretty sick right now, and staring at screens either makes me nauseous or tired. Anyways, there are currently eight thousand reads and more than seven hundred votes on this story and my sick self would like to thank all of you for that! Also, the first chapter of this book actually has nine hundred reads! Which I guess means quite a few people read the first chapter and were just like, "Nope!" But I still feel honored nonetheless! Thank you all so much for reading!
