7| HOSTILE BEHAVIOUR

Start from the beginning

Henry had Biology while she had Chemistry, which also went the other-way-round, so, when he had Chemistry, she had Biology. But after Biology, Henry had English while she had a free, just like yesterday when she had English. Their timetables were similar in some ways. They both had P.E. last together, but she had Biology beforehand and he had Chemistry. Luckily, she had a kit ready for P.E. even though it was just a pair of sweatpants and a running top. She would obviously have to get the actual uniform at some point. Hopefully, they would be doing something she actually enjoyed, or something she was good at.

"You okay, Callas?" Embry gently nudged her side. "You zoned out."

     Callas looked towards him. "What?"

Embry laughed, looking down at the table before he looked back up. "I said are you okay? You zoned out."

"Oh." She smiled shyly. "Yeah, I was just thinking."

"About what?" He asked with a lopsided grin.

Embry was beautiful. Not that Callas would probably ever say that out loud, in fear of embarrassing herself in front of him even more than she already has. There was no way that he got a weird feeling in his stomach whenever he saw her, the way she did with him. It was just a silly crush, it wouldn't last. Their eyes met and she couldn't help but notice that his eyes were the colour of rich chocolate, melted with chestnuts. Like they were hiding something mysterious in the dark, with specks of golden honey or of light shining through whiskey, and it drew Callas in like an enigma.

He raised an eyebrow, not expecting to be looked at like that. She blinked and looked away, she swore that if her hair wasn't covering her face then he would have seen her cheeks flame up with a reddish hue. She bit her bottom lip, closing her eyes, just wanting that moment to be erased from both of their memories, she felt awkward and exposed. Embry smiled to himself, looking down at the desk where his notepad and pen were, he was sure that the others were bound to ask why he was smiling so much during their free.

The teacher had walked around the class, she signed the sheet of paper Callas had given her before she began her lesson. She had given out the rest of the equipment as well, like the hydrogen peroxide and warm water. Embry couldn't help but laugh when he watched Callas's shaky hand try to pour some of the warm water into the cup, not realising that there were tablespoons. Embry placed his hands over hers, lowering the bottle, still laughing to himself quietly, before he lifted a tablespoon in front of her. She smiled, trying not to laugh as well, as she took it and put three tablespoons in the cup. Embry used one to add a tablespoon of the yeast.

"Did that help?" Embry asked quietly, Callas could hear the laughter in his voice.

"Oh, shut up," she told him playfully.

They had safety goggles on as the teacher poured the hydrogen peroxide into the bottle. They had already added the food colouring, although they debated on the colours to use for a good two minutes before they just used both red and blue. The tablespoon of liquid washing up soap was added and swished around. Embry added the cup of water and yeast with a funnel. He made sure Callas only added three teaspoons of water.

Callas let out a squeak, stepping away from the table as it began to create a foam. Luckily, it was placed on a tray table and their books were out of the way as the foam went out of the bottle and began to pile up. Embry held his hand up to her, she high-fived him back and smiled. The teacher began to wrap up the lesson, meaning that they'd have to clean up all the foam before the next class started. At least it wasn't as boring as Maths was, they actually did something fun.

Embry and Callas walked out of class together. He began to warn her that Paul and Jared could be a bit too rowdy, they were both very competitive, and that Paul was a stubborn hothead. Callas made note of that. They walked into the canteen and Embry pointed out the table where the others were already sitting. Callas could hear them from the other side of the canteen. As they neared, the boy, that hooted that morning, slapped Jacob's chest. Jacob looked up with a smirk on his face.

"What took you guys so long?" Jacob grinned as Callas rolled her eyes and sat down.

"Quit it, Jake." Callas sat down next to one of the boys she didn't see yesterday.

"Okay, okay." Jacob held his hands up in mock surrender. "Do you want me to introduce you now?"

"Well if not now, then when? My deathbed?" Callas rolled her eyes again.

"Well, you already know Embry." Jacob pointed out. "Probably more than you know me."

"I said I was sorry." Callas laid her head on the table, her cheeks heating up again. She looked back up and glared at Jacob. All he did was wink before he hissed out in pain.

     "Dude." He looked at Embry.

The boy next to Callas nudged her arm. "I'm Quil." He held out his hand. "Quil Ateara." Callas shook his hand. He had dark brown eyes, black hair, and russet-coloured skin. Just like all the other boys.

"Callas, but you can call me Cal. Jake already does." She grinned.

"So, we've heard," the boy next to Jacob spoke up with a grin. "I'm Paul." Now Callas had the name of her high-fiver and hooter from that morning.

     "Hey." She smiled at him.

"I'll try not to twist your words around too much, save yourself from embarrassment." He chuckled before he picked up a chip and popped it in his mouth.

"Gee, thanks." Callas shook her head gently.

"I'm Jared." Another boy who was eating caught her attention. "The better looking one of this group." He winked at her, glancing over to Embry with a smirk before he continued to eat.

"Good to know, Jared, I'll keep that in mind," Callas responded sarcastically.

"How are you enjoying La Push so far anyway?" Embry poked her side, catching her full attention.

"It's great." She nodded. "It's good to finally be back home, you know? Back where I belong. It's cold, but Utah could be colder." The boys chuckled. "Oh!" She exclaimed. "That reminds me," she started. "Jacob!"

"Yeah?" Jacob looked at her quizzically, occasionally glancing to Embry.

     "The window in my room."

     "What about it?"

"Could you check it out for me?"

     "Why? What's wrong with it?"

"It might be nothing but it always unlocks itself somehow and I always wake up to it being open. Even though I know for a fact that I lock it before I go to bed."

"You sure? I checked it about a week before you arrived, it should be fine."

"I'm sure. I know it sounds silly but I just want to be safe than sorry, especially when I don't know what's out in the forest."

     "Care to explain?"

"Well..." Callas paused. Debating whether or not she'd just sound stupid.

     "You okay?" Embry spoke quietly.

"I don't know." She sighed. She rubbed her forehead.

"You know you can tell us if somethings bothering you, right?" He placed a hand on her back. Somehow instantly calming her nerves. "You don't have to keep secrets from us," he told her kindly.

"Well, it's just... I'm pretty sure that on Sunday morning I saw someone or something move at the tree line. It might have just been my mind playing tricks on me, but it still freaked me out," her voice got quiet towards the end, not knowing if that was the best thing to say to people she just met.

"Don't worry about it, I'll come over and check it out. I'll make sure it stays locked." Jacob offered her a warm smile, trying to reassure her. Trying being the key word.
