7| HOSTILE BEHAVIOUR

     By the time Jacob had parked up in front of the school, the others were already sitting in front of their trucks, waiting for them. Callas got off the motorbike, trying to gain her balance. She took off the helmet and crouched down, she placed the helmet on the floor, and clasped her hands together as if she was praying. She let out a huff of air as she closed her eyes. Jacob could hear the other boys laughing, he turned his head once he took his own helmet off and he looked down at Callas with a small smile. He looked back up and tried to hold in a laugh.

     "Never again," Callas spoke loudly. "I'm praying to God, thanking him that I'm alive right now," she mumbled. Jacob squeezed her shoulder, taking the helmet off the ground, throwing it into the back of the truck along with his, just so they were safer than being left on the motorbike itself.

     "It wasn't that bad," Jacob defended.

     "Excuse me? Not that bad? I almost died." She could have sworn she heard a growl from behind her. "You almost hit a fox, or whatever the hell it was, and swerved like a crazy man!" She over dramatized her actions as she stood up.

     "That didn't happen." He laughed.

     "I saw my life flash before my eyes, Jacob."

     He rolled his eyes. "Oh yeah? And what did you see?"

     "Not much, it sucked, I'm really boring." One of the boys sitting on the back of the truck laughed loudly. "But that's going to change! I'm not dying having led a boring life, I need to find myself some action." The same boy hooted while the others laughed, her cheeks warmed up. "Shut up, I didn't mean—" She huffed and walked away, towards the front doors of the school.

     When she walked in, she was met by the same laminated floors and bright lights. This time she knew where to go and walked towards the office. As she walked in she noticed Henry sitting on one of the uncomfortable blue chairs, obviously waiting for her. The woman at the desk smiled and handed her the form, already knowing who she was. Callas turned to look at Henry, he grinned and stood up, walking around the low table to meet up with her before they both walked out.

     "Rumour has it that you tackled a kid to the floor just after I left." Henry snorted a laugh.

     "I didn't tackle him." She rolled her eyes. "I accidentally knocked him over." Henry went to interrupt. "With my body." Callas finished. She groaned and placed her hands over her face. "It was so embarrassing, I couldn't even look at him this morning."

     Henry clapped his hands together with his head thrown back. "That's amazing. Next time I want to watch you rugby tackle a kid." Henry laughed as he fixed the straps of his bag. "What do you have first?" She took out her timetable, and he looked over she shoulder. Although he was her 'friend' she wasn't comfortable with how close he was still.

     "Maths." She huffed before putting it away.

     She looked down the corridor and noticed that Jacob's friends, minus Embry and himself, were all by the lockers, talking to each other, somewhat secretively. That was until one of the boys, who was taller than the others, turned around. It was the same boy who high-fived her yesterday and hooted that morning. She could have sworn that they glared in her direction and that she heard a growl. But that was obviously insane. Henry gently took hold of her elbow, steering her away and towards a different corridor towards the Maths classroom.

     Callas just wanted to go home and take a nap, even more so when the day dragged on. It was third period, meaning she had Chemistry. But at least she had Embry. They sat together, next to the window, at the desk. They had a couple of things laid out on the table, she could see a plastic soda bottle, a packet of yeast, a small cup, food colouring and liquid washing up soap. Callas knew that that meant they were going to do experiments. All she wanted to do was sleep. She had Maths with Henry, in the morning, and then another free with him which they spent in the library doing work.
