Trinity Blackwood huddled behind a crate of bananas, water dripping from the fur scarf draped around her neck. Her blonde hair was slick from the rain, even though she had done her best to wring out the excess water. Her broken iPhone dangled from her fingers as she watched a tall airport security guard attempt to call for backup from his walkie-talkie, to no avail.

Beside her, another girl - around her same age - shivered underneath her blanket, her mascara smudged around her bloodshot eyes. Despite that, Trinity couldn't help but notice how gorgeous the girl looked, even in the midst of the apocalypse.

At least, she thought it was the apocalypse.

Trinity had heard various theories from various people. A priest, still draped in his frocks, had been announcing how it was the end of the world at the airport. The last she saw of him, security had dragged him away from the confused crowds for causing panic. A businessman she had sat next to at her boarding gate had been telling his wife that it was some type of biowarfare sent from North Korea. A French couple told her it was a supernatural entity from an ancient Egyptian legend.

Either way, it didn't matter.

Either way, it was still the end of the world.

If they bite you, they kill you. That phrase was stuck in her mind as she sat, cold and damp, next to the bananas. You go crazy. You die.

Her friend Naomi had told her that over the phone, just before all communication was cut. Naomi was in London, studying abroad for University. All Trinity knew was that whatever those creatures were, and whatever caused people to go crazy, hadn't reached London.

Yet.

"Hey! Does anyone know what's going on here?" A rough voice cut Trinity out of her thoughts. The speaker was a muscular boy with platinum blonde hair, wearing ripped denim jeans and a leather jacket over a white T-shirt. He approached the security guard, arms crossed. "What were those things? How did they break into the airport? When are we going to get out of here?"

His questions were continued by a short, spunky Latina who flanked his side. "Is there anyone coming for us? What about the planes? The police are going to get the airport under control, right?" She glanced up at the platinum-blonde boy, who draped one arm protectively around her and drew her close before kissing her on the forehead.

Aww. Trinity couldn't help but smile a little. That's cute.

The security guard looked stressed. "Listen, I don't know much. This is literally my first day on the job. And of course," he suddenly turned and kicked the wall next to him, "everything has to go to crap."

"So there's no one coming?" Trinity turned and saw that the beautiful blonde next to her had stopped shivering and was sitting up straight, blue eyes darting to and fro. "What, so we're just supposed to be stuck in this run-down mess of a supermarket forever?"

The security guard cast his eyes downwards. "I don't know. I guess we just have to wait."

The Latina threw her hands up in exasperation. "I can't just wait around here! Don't you see that?" She pointed towards the bolted sliding doors, but no one needed her to point it out. On the other side, dozens of the creatures waited, snarling and snapping their teeth, pushed up against the glass. "We can't stay here forever. If they get in, it's over."

"What the hell do you want me to do?!" The security guard whirled around, yelling, his eyes wide and angry. "What can I do? I don't even have a gun, goddamnit!" Once again, he kicked the wall, this time even with more force than before.
