bella sighed and put her phone down, resting her head on austons chest.

"we should really get ready to go." bella said, realising they had to be at the rink in half an hour. auston just sighed and pulled her closer, not wanting to leave her side.

"but i don't want to face them. what if i get kicked off the team because of it? i don't want to be a distraction to your career. you're first female to ever be on the permanent roster of an nhl team bella! if anything bad happens, i'm going to be kicked off the team or traded, and we won't be together anymore." auston sighed and ran his hands through his hair. the last thing he wanted was to hold her back in any way. bella sat up and grabbed austons shoulders, looking him in the eye.

"auston matthews, you will never have a negative impact on my life. no matter what happens, no matter what people say, i will always be in love with you and only you. ever since we met i've improved not only as a hockey player, but as a person. every single day you motivate me to be better than i was yesterday. you make sure i stay focused on the game. you stand up for me on and off the ice, or you just let me know when something isn't worth the fight. you keep me grounded aus, and i'd be lost without you. i love you so much, and i'll be damned if anyone tries to separate us." auston sat motionless, and bella slid her hands up and down his upper arms a couple times. after a few moments, he pulled her into a tight hug.

"god this is such a mess." he sighed into her hair, closing his eyes. "but i wouldn't want to go through it with anyone else."

*at practice*

as soon as auston and bella entered the dressing room, all eyes were on them. there were a few comments from guys, but nothing mean. just chirps and a few bets being paid. everything was going great, until the moment auston had been dreading came along.

"auston, i need to talk to you outside please." tyler bozak said to the rookie, motioning to the dressing room door. auston gulped and stood up from his spot, looking to bella for reassurance. she simply patted his arm and nodded. even this small gesture was enough to calm him down enough to hold a conversation with tyler.

at least he hoped so.

auston had finally gotten into the hallway with tyler. the two were just standing in the middle of the hallway, not saying a word. bozak was looking at auston in a way that auston couldn't quite read, so he had no clue whether it was good or bad.

"how dare you?" tyler stated harshly, and auston was caught off guard by his tone. in all honesty, auston tries to be a pretty level-headed guy when it comes to his teammates. he won't sweat the small stuff, and he does a pretty good job at staying calm. but when he gets mad, he gets really, really mad.

"how dare i what?" auston spoke calmly, keeping his cool as best he could.

"are you seriously going to play dumb? you're dating the second female to ever play in the nhl, and not to mention she's you're teammate! for christ's sake auston, bella's only 18! she doesn't know any better yet and you're taking advantage of her because of it. you need to quit distracting the poor girl and just let her play hockey. we're all here to play hockey, not to take advantage of the girl on our team." tyler stopped talking for a minute, and auston stayed silent.

there were a million things going through his mind, one of them being how much he wanted to punch tyler in the face. but, you can't punch your teammate in the face.

"and to think i was actually starting to like you. i thought you could handle yourself, but apparently not. you still don't fucking know what's best for yourself or others." tyler finished his little hissy fit, and auston had to think for a second. he could fake it and be nice, maybe try to explain the situation to help tyler understand. but based on past experiences, there is no way that will work.

so instead auston just got really, really mad. he dropped his head, his hair falling into his face and over his eyes. he stood up a little straighter, making sure that every inch of his six-foot-three stature was apparent. picking up his head, auston clenched his jaw before speaking in a very low, quiet voice to the alternative captain.

"listen here you ignorant prick."
