TW: this one shot contains mentions/intent of su*cide. This was a suggestion made by a few users who said I should switch up the scene from the show a little where it's Magnus talking Alec down instead of Clary. Short and to the point. Discretion is advised.

Alec looked down at the busy traffic in the streets below. Clary's voice was still echoing in his mind and it didn't matter how many times he tried to shake it out of his head. It wouldn't go away.

"You killed my mother," she hissed from behind him. "You're a murderer."

"I....." Alec looked over his shoulder at her. "I didn't mean to. I'm so sorry-"

"Sorry? You're sorry?" She snorted. "Sorry isn't going to bring my mom back, Alec. She's dead. You killed her. Her blood was on your hands."

Alec closed his eyes as he turned his head to look down at the streets again. He was a far ways up from the ground, being on the penthouse roof and all. He could just end this all now. All it took was a simple step off the roof and it would all be over in seconds-

"Alexander," a familiar gentle voice spoke. As Alec turned to look, Magnus stood by the rooftop door with wide eyes, hands raised in the air. "You don't have to do this. I know what's going on-"

"Do you? Honestly, do you even know what's going on?" Alec scoffed, almost losing his balance on the side of the building. "Clary's right. I killed her mother. I'm a murderer."

Magnus glared at the redhead, who shrugged and shook her head. "Clarissa? It was Iris. He's still under her spell."

Clary gasped. "I swear, I don't know what Alec is talking about. One minute he was talking to me and then he was going on about how he's a killer and how he deserves to die. I tried to stop him but-"

"Save it," Magnus raised a hand to cut her off. He looked up at Alec again. "Alec....sweetie. Please come down from there. We can talk about whatever you need to talk about."

Even though Alec was back on to him, Magnus could see his boyfriend's shoulder begin to shake. "I screwed up, Magnus! I killed one of my own people because I let a demon in!"

"And it wasn't your fault, Alec. Nobody's blaming you. It was the demon. Not you." Magnus lowered his voice to a gentle whisper. "The Alec I know would never kill an innocent. He would never take a life like that."

Alec let out a sob. "I'm a failure! I'm a disgrace to my family, Magnus! My parents think the worst of me because I'm gay and I fell in love with a warlock! Everything I do isn't good enough for anyone and I'm just waiting for the day you grow bored of me and dump me for someone that's better suited for you! I don't deserve happiness! And I don't deserve to live!"

Magnus swallowed against the lump forming in his throat. "Alexander. Listen carefully to me. You are not a failure. Your parents love you to the moon and back. Being gay won't change their love for you. As for growing bored of you, I can guarantee you that will never happen. Out of those 17,000 exes I had, I would've never though that you'd be the one. It took 17,000 suitors to find you and if you jump off that roof now, you know full well I will be right by your side and fall with you because I don't want to lose you now. It's too soon. I just found you and you want to take that away from me?!"

Alec let out a shaky breath as he stared down at the street. Cars whizzed by like a blur and he thought about landing on the ground if he jumped. Would he feel any pain? Or would death be instant?

"You deserve happiness," Magnus continued, "and you deserve love. Let me be the one who gives you both, Alec. I want to give you the world and everything in it. Just....just step down from the ledge. Please. I don't want to lose the one person in my life who's finally given it meaning."

Alec hung his head as he gave the street one final look before turning around and stepping down. Both he and Magnus made a move before hugging each other tightly, with Alec gripping the warlock's jacket and Magnus stroking the back of Alec's hair with a hand.

"I'm so sorry," Alec whispered. "I'm so sorry-"

"Shhh. It's okay. You have nothing to apologize for," Magnus whispered before kissing Alec's cheek. "I'm just glad you didn't go ahead with it. Sometimes talking it out and letting out how you feel works wonders."

Alec chuckled without humor. "I'm not much of a talker."

Magnus pulled away and pressed his forehead against Alec's. "It's never too late to start."

He kissed Alec in relief as the Shadowhunter nodded in agreement, silently sending a thank you to whichever higher being out there that wanted to listen.
