A butterfly rested on the flower the little girl was holding. She tugged on a wing—blue and black lace. The thin texture tore and she giggled. Holding it by the other wing, grubby fingers crushed its black body, rolling it into wet pieces.

A meow was heard.

She laughed, pulling a silver object from her dress pocket. “Here, kitty.”
