The class went quiet as the teacher adressed Killian for what felt like the 8th time.

"What is the answer?" Mr. McAlduff demanded.

Killian squinted, trying to make out what the small blotches on the board spelled out. After another 10 seconds of humiliation, he gave up.

"I don't know, sir." He said, cheeks tinting red.

"See me after class Mr. Gregory," Mr. McAlduff said, giving him a look. He turned to the rest of the class."Does anybody else know?"

Killian tuned out the all-too-eager girl that raised her hand and buried his head in shame. His eyes had gotten worse, and now he couldn't read the board.

He had been noticing for a while now that his eyesight seemed to be declining, but he hadn't thought much of it. He had hoped that it wouldn't get so bad that he would need glasses, but it seemed his wish hadn't been granted.

It's not like he held a grudge against glasses, he just didn't want the extra hassle of having to keep them clean, plus he was on the football team, and there were rules in place preventing players from wearing things like that during a game. Glasses, jewelry, and other things that could shatter or stab were strictly forbidden for safety reasons.

Either way, he supposed he didn't have a choice now.
-----
His head remained buried in his arms until class ended. He stayed sat in his chair until the room was clear of everyone but him and the teacher, and then he reluctantly stood up. He walked over to Mr. McAlduff, who was watching him bump into desks along the way. Man, he needed glasses.

"So," his teacher said, clearing the silence. "You need glasses, huh?"

"Yeah," Killian said meekly. Mr. McAlduff was also the coach of the football team, and very aware of the rules. " But don't worry, I can get contacts or something."

"Can you get contacts by Friday?" He asked.

"Friday?"

"That's when the next game is." Mr.McAlduff explained. "If you can't see, you can't play."

"Oh.." Killian replied, becoming lost in thought. Was that even possible? He didn't know a lot about contacts or glasses, but his older sister had glasses and she usually had to wait for her prescription to be specially made and shipped to the store, which usually took about a week. Friday was in three days.

A snap of fingers from his coach brought Killian's attention back to the matter at hand.

"So? If you can get them by Friday, you're on. If not, we'll have to bench you." He said.

"I'll do my best, coach. No promises though." Killian joked.
Mr. McAlduff let out a chuckle. They both had the same sense of humor, which was actually not very funny. He needed to work on that.

He gave him a pat of the back and left Killian with his thoughts.
-----

"Are you sure this is the place?" Killian asked, full of doubt.

"I'm sure." Alyssa answered.

They were standing in front of a little shop that looked like it would fall apart if he took a wrong step. The building looked like it had definetly seen better days, but it had been recommended by his sister for 'the amazing customer service'. She had come with him, knowing the shape the building was in would put him off.

"Are you sure we can't just go somewhere else?" He asked.

"I'm sure, now get your butt in there, we've got a deadline of three days." She said, pushing him through the doors.

The inside was much nicer than he had thought it was going to be, a swirl of cream and orange colors decorated the walls, which were lined with different glasses frames. There was a main desk off to one side with a computer, likely the reception area, and another desk with a mirror and some sheets with the recommended style of glasses for different face shapes.

Killian walked over to what he assumed was the reception area and stood there. When no one came out he looked back at Alyssa for help. She gave him a pointed look and motioned for him to call out. He sighed.

"Hello?" Killian said. After hearing no response, he raised his voice and tried again. "Hello?"

He heard a yelp and a muffled thump from somewhere in the store and he turned around, trying to find the person that made the noise. He walked around a shelf full of what he assumed were glasses cases and found a young boy lying on the floor. When the boy noticed him standing there he stood up and quickly tried to compose himself, brushing off the dirt that had accumulated on his black shirt while he was lying on the floor.

"Hi." Killian said. "Do you work here?"

The boy nodded, his bangs falling into his eyes. He looked up at Killian and froze for a moment, seemingly terrified. It's not like Killian was mean-looking, he was just big. He stood tall at 6'0, and was pretty built, he had muscles and he was proud of them.

After a second the boy seemed to notice that he had been staring, and he turned away, a light blush covering his cheeks.

"Y-yeah." He finally replied. "What are you looking for?"

"Glasses." Killian blanked.

The boy looked surprised for a moment, then let out a small laugh.

"Well this is a glasses shop, so I suppose you've come to the right place." He said quietly. "But I meant what kind of glasses."

"Oh." Killian blinked," Right, I'm just looking for whatever pair, and also I was wondering about contacts."

"Well I'll see what I can do," The boy smiled, and Killian felt his heart stop as his green eyes smiled too.
