Chapter 2, A Newbie.

Perseus Jackson

Percy sighed in disappointment as he watched his phone in his hand feeling the vibrations going from his palm all the way to his elbow. He looked at the lit up picture of his Father on his phone, in the picture his Dad was wearing a beach shirt his beard obviously hadn't been shaved in a while. He had a fun and happy expression to his face through the pixels on the screen of Percy's phone. Percy looked at the photo thinking about how pictured were just captured moments in time when everything was perfect. Percy guessed that's why people took pictures all the time, everyone wanted everything to be perfect. All the time. But that was then, and Percy wasn't feeling that a thing was perfect at the moment. Percy grit his teeth, hating that his Mom had taught him good manners, and took the call before it was too late.

"Yes?" Percy asked rather sharply than normal, well he had a perfectly good reason. He was pretty mad at his Father. Not that that gave him the rights to snap and disrespect his Father. "Percy I know you're mad-" Percy never let him finish that sentence. "Me? Why would I be mad? You just bribed the police station to get me a case when I don't even deserve it? I'm a newbie and people probably weren't that interested in me anyways. Newbies are stupid. Then the newbies Father goes head and pays.. Pays! To get him a case! Now the people who patiently worked their way up have to wait for their turn as a newbie goes and screws up everything!" Percy exclaimed into the phone before standing there realizing he was panting. He was that passionate about it?

"I'm so-"

"You could of at least let me work my way up. Not pay for it, Dad. I don't really deserve it. Other people do. But now that o have it, I'll look like a sissy if I give it up now. Like I'm 'scarred' or something..." Percy calmed down a bit letting out a long breath trying to keep his emotions in check the best he possibly could.

"Percy, I know. Your Mom called me and told me about your complaints." Percy started paying more attention to his father when he said Mom. Suddenly he was fidgety and missing home. Well, his Mom. He missed everything about her. Her warm hugs, and her warm blue chocolate chip cookies. Her seven layer dip. He enjoyed curling up next to her on the couch as she sipped her coffee and let him talk about all his feelings and the things he dealt with. He missed her loving touch. He missed his Mom.

"How is she?" Percy asked eagerly and Poseidon let out a little sigh Percy not really caring what Poseidon was feeling. It was his fault Percy was born, he didn't even have the decency to marry his Mother. He just went ahead and slept with her? Got her pregnant and left her to marry an arrogant jerk who did anything but treat her like a lady-... Not that Poseidon was any different. But at least Poseidon didn't scar either of the two like Gabe had done. Emotionally... Or Physically.

"She was pretty mad," Poseidon chuckled and Percy chuckled also imagining her yelling at his Dad through the phone like he had just done. Percy quickly wiped away his tears for his Mother before they ever left his eyes. "But she knew I was doing what I thought was best for you." Percy nodded listening to his Father talk but all he thought about was his Mom. He missed her so much.

"Percy, can you at least look at it through my shoes? I want what's best for you, that's all ok?" Poseidon said and Percy let out a shaky breath as he contained all the thoughts he wanted to say- no. Scream at his Father.

"Alright, I'll try... But Dad if this case.. If it goes bad, or downhill, or whatever... I'm blaming you."

Percy heard a little sigh escape his Father's lips through the phone, "I will take the whole blame for it Percy." Poseidon stated and Percy nodded. "But I know you Percy, you will do everything in you power to make sure it doesn't go bad, and no one gets hurt. I trust you Percy. You will succeed." Poseidon boosted Percy's confidence before Percy heard talking over the phone call sounded like a man's voice. "I gotta go Percy, good luck. I love you." Percy listened and paused for a moment not sure how to answer. Sure his Dad had ended many phone calls on I love you but this time it felt different. Percy let out a smile sigh before answering, "I love you too Dad."

Then Percy quickly pulled the phone away from his ear and hung up before his Dad could say anything else. Percy put his phone on the bedside table beside his bed of blue sheets and comforters. Percy rubbed his eyes and turned off the light before laying down and going to bed knowing tomorrow wouldn't be the easiest day of his life.

Percy looked at the sign clearly stating that the building he was standing in front of was the police station filled with cops and a sheriff all working together to fight evil and help good prevail. That's why Percy wanted to be a police officer, he wanted to do good for his country. and if that meant risking his life and his reputation. That's what was going to happen.

Percy took a deep breath before entering the building an aura of shame around him, sure he was the one putting off that aura but he couldn't help but feel shameful that his Father paid the police to get him a case on literally his first day.

Percy already had on his mind what he needed to do, and if that was the only thing he accomplished all day. So be it. It had to be done.

"Have you seen Piper Mclean?" He asked a girl with brown eyes and blonde hair. She stopped looking up from the file in her hand to his face making Percy feel uncomfortable. He didn't know why, just something about her. "Yeah, she's trying to get information on your new case." the girl gave him a snarky attitude while looking at him in the eyes with daggers making Percy look down a blush creeping on his cheeks from embarrassment. So the word had got around about his Dad.

"Thanks." Percy walked past thinking about how she was probably next in line and she should've been on this case. Not him. He should be giving out tickets for speeding or something stupid like that.

Percy kept asking around until finally he got a location but he was seriously considering shooting himself from embarrassment. Everyone in the force hated him now! Thanks Dad!

Percy slumped his shoulders slightly and groaned in annoyance. He quickly shaped up though when he walked into the room where she would be gathering information on their case.

"Ms. Mclean?" Percy said looking at her making her her stop bending over the guy who had spiky brown hair and yellow glasses and stand up straight folding her arms over her chest and shooting Percy an unimpressed look. Like you're interrupting my work, so make it quick.

Percy guessed he deserved that.

"Yes?" she asked glancing Percy up and down with her currently violet eyes making Percy feel like he was being put under a surveillance camera. Percy swallowed the unwanted spit in his mouth before sucking in a deep breath.

"I'm really sorry for my Father's actions. He shouldn't have paid to get me where I am. I-I don't deserve it. And I don't want to work my way up this way." Percy said before looking to see she was looking at him a little bit in surprise. Her eyes were blue now.

"Well," She cleared her throat. "It's nice to know you're not a rich stuck up jerk like your Father seems to be." Percy looked down in embarrassment. It was kinda true though. "But, your true colors will come through the more time we spend together." She offered her hand making Percy gasp lightly under his breath.

"And call me Piper, I'm not a secretary."

Percy nodded before shaking her hand a small smile forming on his lips Piper's lips twitching into a smile for a moment also. Then she went back to work, "What do we have Sam?" She looked at his computer screen as he typed faster than Percy could see. Percy could tell he'd been working on computer's for a while now.

"We don't have her location yet, but we do have hints on where she is, and where she's gonna be." Sam said and Piper nodded. "Get me the latest location she was seen and we'll go from there." Piper stood up straight before sighing and walking off to a different place in the station her emotions showing signs of strain, sadness, and anger.

Percy sighed, he had no idea what was going on with her. He just hoped she wasn't mad at him for his Father's actions.

He hoped the rest of the force would give him some slack and be nicer to him also. Even if they wouldn't he'd still prove himself. He had already made the decision in his mind...

They'd either accept him. Or learn to respect him...
