Chapter Sixteen

It was Friday after school and Tyler, Hayes and I were walking home from the bus stop.

"We should hang out again, the three of us," Tyler said putting his arms around both of us.

"Sure, what do you want to do?" I asked looking up at him since he was so tall .

"How about GTA5 ?" Tyler replied. I couldn't help but groan.

"We play GTA5 every time we hang out."

"Yea, lets do something else," Hayes finally pitched in to the conversation. I nodded my head agreeing.

"Why don't we go out or something. We always stay home," I said.

"Fine lets meet up at my house at 5 then," Tyler said giving in and then walking up to his house and so did I. I waved bye to Hayes and saw as he entered his house.

When I walked up my driveway I saw my parents car and started running to the door. I was so happy to see them. It's been so long. I opened the door and yelled for them.

"MOM! DAD! I'M HOME !" I yelled and ran into the kitchen to see my mom cleaning.

"I missed you so much! " I said and ran up to her and gave her the biggest hug I've ever given.

"Where's dad?" I asked looking around.

"Upstairs, " she answered. I nodded and ran up to their room and saw my dad unpacking. I ran to him and he opened his arm for me. I jumped into them and he hugged me.

"I missed you so much sweetie," I nodded and hugged him tighter.

I know I always said that my parents never let me do what I wanted but without them everything was so confusing. I missed them a lot and now everything is normal. I decided to text Matthew .

To Matthew - My parents are home how about yours?

I waited a while for his response so I decided to text Tyler. Hayes and I aren't really talking as much because it's a little awkward. The only reason we talk is because we're both really close to Tyler.

To Tyler - do you know what we are going to do?

He replied instantly

From Tyler - yea , we are all going to the park soon.

I smiled. We don't really go to the park often because of how boring it is, but I secretly want to go all the time because of the swirly slide.

I ran down the stairs and sat on the kitchen counter .

"So I was thinking I could go to the park with Hayes and Tyler, " I more like told my mom than asked.

"Whose Tyler?" she asked. I totally forgot she wasn't here when they moved in.

I told her everything that has happen since she's been gone. Now that I think about a lot has happen since she left.

"So, can I go ?" I asked. she nodded and I hugged her with a tight squeeze. I went into the living room waiting for my text from Tyler.

BING BING went my phone.

From Tyler - meet me at the park

I didn't reply I just kinda ran out of the house and started walking. I saw Hayes In front of me so I decided to catch up to him

"Hayes wait up," I called. He turned around and waited for me to be closer to him. Since it's January it's really cold outside and I could feel my nose turning red.

"Tyler texted you too?" he asked  I just nodded. My hands were starting to get cold so I put them in my pockets.

"Are you ok?"

"Yea I'm just cold.  Aren't you ?" I answered.

"Yes but your lips are turning purple and your face is pale white, plus your nose is really red," I couldn't help but laugh.

"Thanks." I said sarcastically

When we made it to the park Tyler was no where to be found.

"I'll text him again. " I told Hayes.

To Tyler - are you still coming?

Hayes and I decided to stay on the swings waiting for Tyler. It was awkward to be honest I didn't know what to say.

"Has Lauren spoke to you about anything after we all met in the hall?" Hayes asked.

"No, why?" I lied. Lauren did right after he and Tyler left.

"oh, it's nothing. You know if she's ever bothering you you can tell me," I nodded.

It was now freezing and it looked like it was going to rain. All the clouds in the sky had covered up the sun and I wanted to go home.

"Hayes do you think we can leave now? I don't think Tyler is coming," Hayes nodded in agreement and we walked away from the park. This was a disappointment , I didn't even get to ride the swirly slide.

Hayes and I were now on the porch of my house.

"Thanks for dropping me off " I said.

"No problem, you live next door. " I smiled , that was true .

"bye," I gave him a hug and he put his hands around my waist. It was so warm that I didn't want to let go, but I had to sooner or later.

"Dani , can I tell you something?" Hayes asked while we were still hugging. I nodded.

"um.. I like you," my heart stopped and everything went quiet. I like him back I know that, but do I just say it like he did. What if Lauren finds out? She'll be so mad. Hayes soon started talking again.

"It's ok, I get it if you don't like me back . I just thought maybe you did . Because on new years and the day we made my first video," He said blabbing on and I just started to tune him out . He basically just went on and on about how he thought I liked him and the reasons why, and I do like Hayes a lot .

"It hurts liking someone who only sees you as a friend " When I heard him say that , I couldn't help but push my lips onto his. I did that because one; I wanted him to shut up and two; I know the feeling and I don't want him thinking I don't like him when I do.

The kiss was simple, just a peck, but it meant something to me, the start of something new. When I pulled away Hayes was still holding on to my waist.

"I like you too," I said and just awkwardly stood there.

"well, good thing we got that settled," Hayes said .

"Yup" I replied and popped the 'p' .

I walked back inside while Hayes walked back to his house. Could that have been anymore awkward than it already was?
