I shoot up and wipe a hand across my forehead, which is sticky with sweat. Breathing out, I remove my blankets and swing my bare legs to the edge of my bed. The cold hardwood cools me down and I pull on a pair of robes, covering me. The window by Myra's bed shows that the sun rose about an hour ago, so in a couple of hours, everyone will be up, and breakfast will magically appear in the Great Hall. I shuffle towards the door and silently open it, tip-toeing down to the Common Room. The fire blazes and I nestle my small, fragile frame into a corner of the sofa opposite it, almost hidden out of sight. The logs burning in the fire turn a deep shade of red, the same colour as my hair. I hear footsteps on the stairs and burrow further into the seat in which I sit.

"Ellie?" A voice, female, whispers. I peek around the back to find the source. Ginny stands a few feet away from the stairs leading to the girls' dormitories.

"Hey, Ginny." My voice is so quiet I can barely hear it. "Hey, Ginny," I say, after clearing my throat.

"Why are you down here?"

"I.. umm,-" There's no point in lying- "I had a nightmare."

"Oh,"

"What about you?" I question.

"I just saw you leaving, I couldn't sleep." She replies. "Was it bad?"

"Hm?" I furrow my eyebrows.

"Your nightmare, was it bad?" She repeats.

"Yeah, it was." I nod. Ginny comes to sit next to me, and we look at each other in silence. We must have gotten lost of time because we soon heard footsteps bounding down the stairs and the sun had risen a good bit further. To redheads leap into the Common Room and lean over the back of the sofa.

"Whatcha doin'?" The ask in unison. I can't help but laugh.

"It's like you two know when your little sister's not up to her best." I giggle.

"Well, our favourite little gingers-," One starts.

"-You aren't at your best-," The other says.

"-And we're here to change that." The finish together. I roll my eyes and jump off the sofa. It's November, and we can officially start setting up for Christmas, even though I started on the 1st of October! I pull on some Christmas tree printed tights and my uniform, as usual. I plait my hair and tie a bobble around the bottom. My stomach grumbles, so I pull Ginny down the stairs and to the Great Hall. Doing so, I walk into Draco, again, in the corridor.

"Sorry," He says, and walks on. I smile brightly and he slips some parchment into my hand.

"What was that about?" Ginny's eyes glitter and I shake my head, dragging her to the hall. We sit down a bit away from our siblings and I open the note Draco gave me.

Meet me in that classroom after lunch?

My breath hitches in my throat.

"You've got a date?!" She asks, looking over my shoulder. I laugh and shake my head.

"I'm only 11! Merlin, at least wait until I'm 19 when you set me up with someone." I catch the eye of a certain Slytherin and subtly nod. Ginny misses this interaction and grabs a thin slice of thickly buttered toast, biting into it.

"Come on, eat! You're like a skinny stick." Ginny exclaims. "I can't believe Mum didn't force-feed you more food!" She pushes the porridge bowl towards me and I grimace, pushing it away and picking up and apple.

"How are you so cheery? Especially after... Yesterday?" I wonder aloud.

"I'm not, just putting up a show for my brothers and Harry. No doubt Hermione will worry, too." She sighs, finally showing her full demeanour. I nod in agreement, my bubbly smile dropping from my face like a stone in the black lake.
