13 SMAUG THE CANDY DRAGON    [UNEDITED]

Elise tugged absentmindedly on her hair as she stared at the open textbook on the desk before her. The words in it might as well have been Latin to her. She never was the academic type, and without Jenessa there to help, Elise had zero ability or desire to focus on the task at hand. Elise had spent half of the night trying to call her best friend, only to be forwarded to her voicemail nearly every time. On the rare occasion that the other girl did pick up the phone, Elise was usually hung up on within seconds.

She groaned loudly, dropping her head onto the desk. Scott and Stiles were out getting drunk and she was stuck at home slowly boring herself to death. Oh, well. At least I won't have to deal with finals.

"Miss McCall," Mr. Harris called as he entered the lecture room, "I believe you have the wrong classroom."

"Nope, Mister H, I missed you so much that I decided to take Chemistry all over again!" Elise chimed sarcastically. The teacher didn't seem to appreciate her humor, as he simply waved her out of the room and began passing out tests.

The brunette flashed her brother a reassuring smile before slipping into the hall. She remembered Harris' tests. They were like forty-five minutes of hell cramped into a single booklet.

Elise hadn't even made it down the hall before someone came barreling past, nearly knocking her to the ground. "Scott?" she called, recognizing the mop of dark hair on the runner's head as he ducked into the locker room.

She followed her brother, Stiles right on her heels as they made their way into the locker room. "Scott?" she called again, nearing the sound of running water. She peered cautiously around the shower corner to see Scott leaning into the running water. He panted breathlessly with his forehead pressed against the tile wall.

"I can't breath," Scott gasped, turning off the steaming water.

Stiles rummaged around in Scott's backpack for his inhaler and ordered him to use it. Scott flashed him an unsure look but accepted the inhaler and took a deep breath of the medicine.

"I was having an asthma attack?" Scott asked once his breathing calmed.

"You were having a panic attack," Stiles guessed. "Thinking it was an asthma attack actually stopped the panic attack. Kind of ironic, huh?"

"How did you know that?" Elise asked.

"I used to get them all of the time after my mom died," Stiles explained before glancing to Scott. "Not fun, huh?"

"I looked at her, and it was like someone hit me in the ribs with a hammer. I just can't stop thinking about her."

"That, dear brother, is heartbreak," Elise frowned.

"About two billion songs written about it," Stiles added. "Think about it this way: her dad's a werewolf hunter, you're a werewolf. There was bound to be an issue sooner or later."

"I don't think that's helping," Elise nudged the younger boy before flashing her brother a sympathetic look. "Listen, Scott, it'll get better- trust me. You just need some junk food and a movie marathon. Break up's are supposed to hurt. That's why it's called a 'break up', it breaks your heart for a while."

"That's not it," Scott shook his head, "it was like I could feel every emotion in that room."

"It has to be the full moon," Stiles guessed. Scott nodded hesitantly before he continued, "We'll lock you up just like we planned. That way the Alpha can't get to you."
