It Doesn't Work That Way Chapter 4

Start from the beginning

"Rosemary Lynn Barns you do not speak to your mother that way! You apologize this instant young lady."

"I'll apologize when you start acting like a mom. Do you know how much football means to him? Of course you don't! Because you don't know your own children!"

"I'm sorry you feel that way. And I'm sorry we're disappointing you but-"

"I'm not the one you're disappointing. Don't ruin his view of you and dad because you already ruined mine." I said pushing the End button. "They never change." I said to myself throwing the phone across the room. It's a good thing Clark was at a friends house he'd be absolutely distraught that they weren't coming. He thinks so highly of them. Maybe because he's the golden child. He's the one who 'saved their marriage'. That's great parenting skills right there. The second child saves the marriage while the first is the reason for the almost split and is told as much. This does wonders for the first child's self esteem, note the sarcasm. Also not being around is another example of great parenting skills. I was practically raising Clark since I was 8 and he was 5. Last month they were in Russia selling a mansion to some famous dude who paid several million dollars for the house.

I was too tired for all of this. I looked at the clock 1:58 no wonder. I went to bed exhausted.

And I woke up exhausted. I walked into my closet and grabbed a pair of jeans and a tie-dye t-shirt. I then went to my bathroom, took a shower, got dressed, dried my hair and put it up in a ponytail, and didn't even bother with makeup. To hell with it all. I went downstairs, had some breakfast, grabbed my book bag, cellphone, and keys. I got into my car which started when I turned the key and I mentally thanked and cursed Sean as I drove to school.

I turned the engine off after I pulled into a parking spot. It was then I finally realized what time it was. I was an hour early to school. How the hell did I manage to do that?! So I sat in my car and read my English assignment due Monday. Which by the way not a great idea since it was Shakespeare, what with all the tragedy. Yep a great idea to read a tragedy while I'm in this kind of mood.

*Knock Knock Knock*

"OH MY GOD!!" I screamed and jumped so high I hit my head against the top of my car. I looked out the window while rubbing the top of my head and unlocked the door to let Mike in the passenger side.

"You scared the crap outta me! Don't ever do that again." I said smacking him with Shakespeare.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. I saw you and I thought I'd come over and say hello...Hello and did you just hit me with Shakespeare?" He said smiling dorkishly.

"Hi and yes I most certainly did."

"So why are you here so early?"

"I didn't look at the clock before I left the house."

"You don't here that very often do you."

"No you don't."

"Well are you ready for tonight's game?"

"Shouldn't I be asking you that? I mean I'm not playing you are." I said pausing. "So are you ready for the game tonight?" I said smiling, he smiled back.

"I think so, we've got a really good chance of winning tonight. So are we still on for Sean's party after the game?"

"Yep we're still on, unless you don't want to."

"No I want to, I was just wondering if you had changed your mind since we last spoke."

"Nope haven't changed my mind."

"OK, good. I also wanted to ask you a question."

"Go for it."

"Did you have a fight with Sean recently?"
