It's my first day as a student in a Korean school. I just finished moving in with my Aunt, who I almost never got to see before this. I missed her, and needed a break from life back in Canada. Korea didn't seem to be much better, but at least I get to explore my new surroundings.
A person brushed against my shoulder as he was walking by.
"Oh, sorry." I muttered.
"What?" He stopped and gave me a confused look.
I said it in English, and it doesn't help that I muttered it.
"I'm sorry." I said it in Korean this time, but before I got a chance to finish my sentence he walked off.
"Dammit," I thought. "Messed up in front of someone, even before school started."
I made my way to the school. And by 'Made my way' I mean I followed the girl in front of me, she had the same uniform I had on. The school wasn't that far from my house, anyway. Her long brown hair was very pretty, swaying from side to side as she walked. She seemed happy to go to school. She must have a crush or something because how can people find joy in going to school?
Any thought rushed out of my head as I saw the front of the school. The school was so large compared to the other ones I went too. I stood at the gate for almost an entire minute before going in.
As I walked in, people were giving me weird looks.
"Is she the new kid?"
"I haven't seen her around before."
I heard pieces of conversations about me, mostly nice, but others were just harsh.
"She's not even pretty, what a waste"
Those resonated in my mind as I made my way through the corridors onto the second floor, where my class was held. I saw a familiar face; Ms. Lee. My Aunt and her are good friends, so I already knew her. Luckily, she was my first teacher of the day.
"Ms. Park JaeHee! Welcome! I hope you're going to like this school." Ms. Lee said, she seemed so overly ecstatic, and I wondered why.
"Thank you, I bet I will." I smiled, but it quickly faded after I started thinking about all the things that can go wrong.
I got ushered in to the classroom by Ms.Lee, and I saw half of the class was already there. It was about ten minutes until class started, so I was happy that I could sit down.
"You should stand up here with me to wait for everyone else to come. Everyone is usually early, other than a few boys and a couple girls."
Shit.
With my luck, it's going to take much longer than normal.
Everyone eventually came, in a shorter time than what was expected. Some gave me dirty looks while others gave me a small smile.
I noticed about 4 empty seats, thinking that those were always empty, I hoped I sat alone. Ms. Lee gave me a small shove to the front of the room, smiling.
"This is Park Jaehee, our new student from Canada. Please Welcome her."
I did the usual 'New Student' introduction. I gave a small bow, saying "Hello, thank you for having me."
"Miss JaeHee, please go sit next to Namjoon."
