"Gross! Do NOT start in on that. EW!! Thanks a lot for that!"
"It's what I'm here for."
"Amy Cornell!?"
"Here." She said raising her hand. "Anyway I heard about you and Mike..."
"Does everyone know about that already?"
"I think so. Why did Sean say something? OH MY GOODNESS!!! He said something! Tell me tell me tell me!!! Come on TELL ME!!!"
"WOW!! Calm down!! He di-"
"Alright people look at this map. This is your route. Line up, get ready to run, run, finish route, then record your time on the time sheet that will be on this table right here" he said pointing to a table. "Don't lie because Sarah here is going to be watching you like a hawk. She will tell you your time when you cross the finish line. After you do that you may leave. See you next week on Tuesday. I'm leaving I have better things to do than wait for you to finish so if you have questions email me after practice today and I'll get back to you as soon as possible. Good luck." Coach said. He turned around and walked away towards the teacher parking.
"Well then. Everyone line up when I blow the whistle you can go." Sarah, who I was guessing was assistant coach said. A second after everyone lined up she blew the whistle and everyone took off.
"SOOOO tell me what did he say?!?!!?" Amy said jogging beside me.
"He asked me why I was going with Mike and that he was jealous. Or that's what he said. I don't quite believe him on that."
"Was this before or after the bet?"
"You know about the bet?"
"Of course I know, everyone knows. Well maybe not the weird people that don't talk to anyone, but that's to be expected."
"That was before the bet. As well as the kiss."
"WHAT!??!" Amy yelled as she stopped in her tracks. I kept running. "You two kissed!? WHAT?? I can't believe you!" She said catching up to me.
"Yep. Hey I don't wanna be rude but I'm gonna speed up I want a better time than when I did this over the summer."
"Uhuh sure you just don't want to talk about Sean."
"That could have something to do with it. Talk to you tomorrow." I said vaguely as I sped up. I put my headphones in and readjusted my arm band holding my phone and turned the volume up hearing the opening notes of "Cruise" by Florida Georgia Line.
Three songs later Brad Paisley's "Beat This Summer" came on then quickly shut off as my phone turned itself off. "Of course. I should have known it would do this." I said to myself. My phone was temperamental at best, it just randomly liked to shut off. I sighed and kept going determined to do better than 2 miles in 16 minutes. I ran across a small bridge over a creek and felt a drop on my arm. As I looked up more drops began to fall. Damn it. I finally got back to the road that led to the starting point. 100 more yards and I'd be there. I sprinted.
"14:41, nicely done." Sarah said to me as I passed her. She was sitting in a chair with an umbrella set up next to the table with the record sheet.
"Thank you." I said back breathless. I walked over to the sheet and recorded my time. I didn't really want to wait for Amy or go into the locker room and change so I just headed towards my car as the rain fell harder. I made it to my car, it was pouring and I was drenched. I got in and turned the key in the ignition. It didn't turn over. I did it again, nothing. "No no no."I said hitting the steering wheel, I got out and lifted the hood. Don't know why I did I wouldn't know what I was looking for anyway. I sighed and closed the hood and got back in the car. I hit the steering wheel again and leaned my head against it.
