Jaemie

A few weeks have gone by and it's the same shit. Kallyn doesn't show up on Mondays and Tuesdays but is there Wednesday-Friday. He shows up to class but won't so much as even look in my direction. I'm over it. That boy is more complex than my brain could even imagine.

It's November now, three months into the semester and not a damn thing has changed between Kallyn and I since Freshman year. Except that Freshman year I was innocent and a little less insecure and I never saw him outside of school. We get Wednesday through Friday off for Thanksgiving but of course, Kallyn wasn't there Monday or Tuesday. It's Tuesday night and there's a huge party in the neighborhood Jax, Kam, Kat and I live in tonight. Kam and Kat are over getting ready so we can all go together. Kam always dresses more casually than I do and Kat wears heels to school. You could not get three more different girls together. I am so ready for this night and I've been in a pretty good mood all week. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, my grandpa always comes home for it. My grandpa will be here by tomorrow evening, I hate that he lives so far away. I'm so excited.

I decide to let Kat get me all dolled up and pick my outfit. Once she does, I look in the mirror. What was I thinking? I hardly recognize myself. My freckles are covered by the make-up and my long brown locks are twisted into loose curls around my face. I'm wearing skin tight jeans and an even tighter black shirt that's cut low but has a little red sticking out from underneath. Kam whistles as she steps out in her cardigan.

"Oh, hell no." Kat says and I laugh. Good luck getting Kam to change.

"You pick, I do your make up or I pick your outfit."

"I'm a little nervous to choose either."

"Fine." Kat says "I'll be subtle with both." She's as matter-of-fact as it gets.

When Kat is finished, Kam has shiney eyes but nothing too crazy and she's in jeans with a fitted sweater. She looks cute. I can tell even she thinks so. It's November but it's not that cold, the party is in the front of the neighborhood so we all decide to walk. Jax and Jamison meet us out front of my house and we make the trek to Kyles.

When we walk in there's only a small crown. "Hey friends!" Kyle greets us warmly. He's a sweet kid, his parents are never around. Since Kyle is part of the guys I've been friends with forever, Jordan never questions when I come here. Kyle's in my grade, a Junior, but always hangs out with older kids because he has always had the place to party. "Nice to see familiar faces, come on let me show you to the alcohol." I brought my own because once those bottles are open, I don't trust them. I keep mine with me. Same with Kat and Kam. The boys get beer out of the keg and we start drinking. The five of us are mingling with others but always making our way back to check on each other. A familiar face abruptly appears in front of me.

"Jesse." I breathe. I haven't talked to him since last year.

"Hey Jaemie, I just wanted to apologize for how shit went down. I was way out of line. I had been drinking a lot and I wasn't myself. I've gotten cleaned up and I realize what an asshole I was."

I appreciate the apology, he seems sincere. But he's always had a way with words.

"Thanks Jesse. I'm glad you're getting cleaned up." I say a little guilty because I, myself, am feeling slightly drunk. We spend the next twenty minutes talking casually when Jamison comes up and slides his arm around my shoulder. "You good Jaem?"

I smile at him. He's my best friend, look at him protecting me. He really is the best friend I have ever had. Wow, I really am feeling this alcohol.

"I am, Jam. Thanks for checking." He kisses my head and goes to walk passed Jesse but not before he says "Do anything out of line and I'll do worse than Dex." And pats Jesses shoulder. I know I shouldn't but I smile. I have the most amazing group of boys. I am currently a little appreciative of Jordans antics. A little.
