Chapter 51

Mate? Okay, that was a pretty comedic nickname...

Nate laughed, hugging her.

"Where have you been? I haven't seen you in so long." He said, enthusiastically.

"Just doing what I always do. And if you had looked around you more you would see that I have been helping around here all day long you dumbass." Shayla laughed.

They both smiled at each other and I felt more jealousy overflow my body.
I coughed, breaking their moment.

"I uh, have to go." I said, trying to escape the awkward situation.

"But I thought we were going for a drink?" Shayla said.

"Right. Well, I rembered I have to do something but I'll be back in a flash alright?" I replied.

"Alright. I'll be with Nate here by the bar. Don't be late." Shayla said, hugging me.

Nate caught my gaze and my heart sunk a little in my chest at the sight of him. He seemed upset, something which he certainly wasn't feeling a minute ago.
I quickly walked away after that, helping around a little more outside. I managed to convince Tink to return to the conference hall with me, so that I could have some back up when I saw Nate again.

"Woah, looks like the power couple is talking again." Tink spoke up as we entered the hall.

My eyes fell upon Nate and Shayla and I raised an eyebrow, confused.

"Power couple?" I asked.

"Nate and Shayla used to date. They were very good together, they both had the same interests and personalities." Tink explained, still staring at them in surprise.

This time hurt and shock filled my body. They were a couple?!

"What happened to them?" I questioned.

"Shayla broke up with him. Said she needed some alone time. There was a passing...amongst us fairies. It was a big deal to everyone. Shayla didn't take it so well and isolated herself. Nate was gutted. They did keep some contact though." Tinkerbell explained.

I glanced back at the two in sadness. That was horrible.

Then, I saw Shayla place her hand on top of Nate's and a stabbing feeling appeared in my stomach.

"That's a shame. They look good together." I mumbled.

"They do, yes." Tinkerbell said, in deep thought.

"Anyway, let's go get a drink." She added.

"Oh no, I'm not that thirsty anymore." I panicked.

I really didn't want to be near the two ex's. Not now.

"Come on silly, you have to stay hydrated." Tinkerbell locked her arm around mine and started pulling me to the table with drinks.

"Hey guys!" She yelled at Shayla and Nate who pulled away from each other.

"Tink, Jade!" Shayla smiled.

"Whoo, what a day right? A lot of preparations for the real world." Tinkerbell said and quickly started a conversation with Shayla.

I, on the other hand, avoided looking at Nate. I tried to engage in the conversation the two fairies had but without luck and not much later, I dismissed myself.

It was midday and I had been keeping myself busy all morning, avoiding bumping into Nate or Alek. Luck was on my side and I had managed to clean the training area up after my daily work out before I played another snowball fight with my mother and some of the Lost Boys. Even Peter came down to play for a bit.
