"How long will we be standing here! I'm starting to get tired." I whined as I looked around me.
"Would you shut up and try to help? A deer can appear any minute now so grab your weapon and take position." Joey, one of the Lost Boys, replied annoyed.
I sighed and grabbed the pistol that Peter had given me when we arrived at the hunting spot. The Lost Boys never hunted in one place since that would make them more vulnerable to pirates and that would scare off their prey.
I kneeled down beside Joey and stretched my arms before me, the pistol tightly in my hands as my fingers were wrapped around the trigger.
"So...you do this how many times a week again?" I questioned.
"Three, sometimes four times a week. We need to bring food to the camp, how are we gonna survive otherwise?" Joey whispered.
"Why don't you just wish for it? It's much easier." I suggested.
Joey rolled his eyes at me, looking in front of him at the trap we had set up for the animals in these woods.
"You ask a lot of questions, you know that?" He stated.
I chuckled.
"Yeah, people have told me that before. Now tell me." I ordered.
Joey glanced in my direction for a split second before turning his gaze back on the trap.
"Stubborn and demanding, I have seen that before..." He muttered.
I snorted.
"Just like I've heard that one before too." I answered, scowling.
Why did everybody keep saying that? How much alike was I with the rest of the world? I always did my best to differ but it seemed impossible. My mother told me I looked like my father, my friends told me I looked a lot like my mother. It was a never ending cycle!
I focused back on the trap, my pistol ready to shoot.
"Pan has learned us to fight for what we want. That's his motto, you gotta get whatever you want without ease otherwise it's not worth the claim. Plus, you can't wish for everything, that's not right." Joey explained after a while of silence between us.
I looked at him but he avoided my eyes, looking straight forward.
"Well...he is right, but not everything should be a competition." I argued.
Joey suddenly pushed his index finger to his lips and then pointed in the direction of the trap. My head turned and my eyes widened when they fell upon a deer which stood close to the trap. It was beautiful with it's golden fur and it's beady black eyes. It looked right in our direction but it couldn't see us since we were hidden behind the bushes.
"Come on, go eat the damn leaves..." Joey whispered ever so softly.
I glanced in his direction when he prepared himself to shoot as the deer slowly took closer steps towards the trap.
I glanced back at the pretty creature which finally took the last step. All of a sudden, the trap closed around it's foot, causing it to let out a weird noise. It tried to run away but couldn't move, and then, the gunshot was fired. I flinched as I watched the poor animal fall to the ground, dead.
Tears filled my eyes as I stared at it's limp body but I tried to remain strong. If Peter heard about my moment of weakness from Joey, I would be seen as weak and I knew they didn't trust weak people. So, I swallowed back my tears and plopped to my bum whereas Joey stood up and walked towards the deer. He laughed happily before looking to me.
