I was hungry. Lost, and tired. Always relying on dumpsters are not a good thing. It was dark out and no one was around I had no choice today I would skip another meal, although I wouldn't exactly call them meals. It looked as if I was walking through a park, there was a worn out bench with a swing and a slide. I sat down on the bench a staring out, wondering how had my life turned out to be. I was a homeless seventeen year old girl with freakish powers. I wish for once that something would have gone right for me. That I could be a normal teenager with no worries. That I got adopted and had a family to call my own, but dreams like that are just dreams. Nothing more nothing less. What if this never happened and my parents kept me? What would my life would have been like? So many thoughts ran through my head and I just wanted silence. I rested my head on the arm rest and just stared out into the darkness. I had walked to the nearest town I could find, Shandor. It was small and I traveled more than twenty miles to get here unknowingly in the blazing sun. My eyes slowly sagging, my dreams were the only place where things went right but do I really want it? Wouldn't it be better to go through what I I'm going through and come out tough and strong? Nothing in life is ever perfect it would be boring if it was. Then sleep overtook me.
Curled up on the thin bench I listened to the world around me. I could see the sun arise behind a tall building, it must have been later than I thought. I was so lost in the sunrise that I didn't hear when an older looking lady sat next to me. She was covered in rags and a beanie over her thin graying hair. She was the kind of old ladies you saw in movies were everybody called her 'mom' even though you weren't at all related to.
" Beautiful ain't it," said the women. I kept my silence, she looked nice enough but you could never trust anybody these days can you?
" Its a shame how we take things like this for granted. How long have you been homeless sugar?" I honestly didn't know, it wasn't for that long though.
" Awhile. Who are you?" Suddenly growing suspicious.
" Names Mardi, sweety. I'm a witch, how about you?" A witch. A witch. That didn't seem to hard to believe, I possibly couldn't be the only one with power could I. This had me thinking, should I tell her? Why would she tell me she's a witch?
" My names Zara. I honestly don't know what I am." And that was true. I had wings with powers I wouldn't exactly classify my self as human. I'm left to conclude that I'm some weird mutant.
" Zara. What a lovely name child. Zara I am here to help you, I don't have much longer before I kick the bucket I'm an old croon. Would you like help? I could show you who you are and what you will become to be." Hmm. Sounds like a deal to me but could I trust her? Yes. No. Damn I had a plan to head out of here after I had woken up and scavenged for something to eat.
" Okay." But if anything goes wrong I'm out. She smiled a sweet little old lady smile. Everything would get better I told myself, she looked to be safe.
" Ok first thing is hun your an angel and one of dark and light at that. But more so of light. I will teach how to control both sides but its not safe here." To say that my mind had been blown away would not fit it. I felt like someone had told me the sky is going to fall and it actually happened.
Mardi took me to her home and it was quite big for someone who lives alone. I got cleaned and looked as shiny groomed ever. She sat me down on an old ruggety stool and told me everything I needed to know about angels and witches. I started training with her that next day, not wanting to waste any time.
•• Present••
Since that time Mardi had taught me my powers of light and dark. She also trained me in fighting. I worked hard and she became the mother I never had. Sadly what she said was true her time was running out. Mardi had died of a heart attack seven months after she found me on that bench. I miss her deeply. I stayed hidden using the skills she taught me, I didn't go to high school it was too much of a risk, instead she home schooled me. Mardi told me that if anyone found me I would be in some serious shit and to trust no one. I listened that meant not staying in any place over a week. Today I had stopped at the Ancient Café before I hit the road, but then Logan showed up and I realized he knew more about me than I liked. Mardi said this would happen soon, before all I was, was a rumor. The darks (dark angel) were so deep into their ignorance to think that I could actually be real. So how did they find out about me I don't know but I planner to find out.
