"Listen, why do you want me to be Snow White so badly?" His eyes grew soft but interested at the same time. He leaned in until I felt his lips grazing my ear. "So I can kiss you." My body had stopped working at that point. I didn't know what to say, but my eye started to twitch as my body grew tense. He put his big hand on my shoulder and looked me in the eyes, "Please try out for Snow White, you're perfect for the part, and I just know that you'll love it."
"Okay," I heard coming from my voice. My heart seemed to have started talking without asking my head if it was alright. Without hesitating I erased what I had wrote and scribbled my name under Snow White.
"Here's your script babe, can't wait to see you," he told me as he grabbed my hand and looked into my eyes. He had puppy eyes that could make me melt. I couldn't speak but managed to nod my head in response. I felt my hand grow cold and limp as he let go, already missing his touch on my gentle skin.
I could feel Chelsea's eyes glued to me as I turned around in complete shock. "Well, I guess I should start studying my lines!" The words came coolly off my tongue. I tried to calm myself as I walked away, focusing on the pattern of my feet: left, right, left, right. This can't be THAT hard, can it?
----------
"So wait, what do you want me to say?" Chelsea asked, confused. "SAY YOU'RE ONE AND ONLY LINE!" I screamed, not realizing how loud I actually was. All I needed was to run over my lines one last time before the audition. "Oh okay right right," she mumbled, obviously hurting from my tone.
We were practicing during lunch, the only time I had left before I actually had to act in front of people. Oh god.
It was quiet for all but five seconds before I heard "Hey ladies," spoken over my shoulder. His presence gave me the shivers up-and-down my spine. He sat next to me, not minding that the space between us was nonexistant. "Hi," I said blandly. "Are you ready to try out for Snow White today?" God damn it, that cute smile of his. I need to pretend to be brave.
"Yeah I know my lines so well, I am so ready!" I sounded like a nerd, ugh. "Well then.." I guess he was shocked by my response, maybe because I haven't said that many words to him before. "I guess I will see you there!" With a pat on my back, he got up and walked away, once more shocking me by his beauty.
The sound of the bell buzzed through my ears as I knew this was it. "Are you ready?" Chelsea looked at me with wide eyes as she pulled me into a hug. "Ready as I'll ever be."
--------------------------
The audiotorium was tightly packed with students from 9-12th grade. I felt claustrophobic even though I was all alone. I seemed to have been crowded by all the thoughts running through my head. I managed to find an unoccupied seat and sat myself down. All I could hear was chatter, mainly about the play and what role they picked. It was normal for me to be alone, I was usally alone most of the time other than lunch and second period with Chelsea. Other than that, I barely knew anyone else.
"Settle down, settle down!" Mrs.Gonzalez said. Fake blond highlights, glued on eyelashes and colored eyebrows, she was a sight for sore eyes I guess you could say. "Grab your seats children, grab your seats!" She liked to repeat herself twice just in case someone didn't hear her, even though her voice was so distinct you could hear it from a mile away. I chuckled to myself as I saw her getting upset and shooing kids away from her superficial presence.
"Are you ready to show your stuff love?" The familiar voice said to me. The words slid through my body like hot caramel slides down a freshly washed plate. Liam sat next to me wondering how ready I actually was. "Yes, of course, I already told you that!" I kind of wanted to focus on Mrs.Gonzalez, but my heart wanted just to stare at him forever.
