Chapter 2: The Feast

As they took their seats in the great hall, harry wondered who had been made head girl and boy. He thought about how it could be anyone from the burrow as the letters had arrived so late that they had to open them and head to diagonal alley. Nobody showed any badges though. Ginny sat beside him and whispered into Harry's ear so that nobody else could hear, 'Guess who's been made head girl.' She didn't seem to pleased about it though. He continued to think about things all through the sorting.

What was his and Ginny's relationship now. He had sort of broken up with her last year but then sort of gotten together with her again. He thought about all the deaths that had happened. He had spent all summer forcing himself into the truth that this was not his fault. It hadn't quite worked yet but he was getting there.

'Harry aren't you going to eat something before Ron eats everything.' Harry snapped back into reality to see Ron piling food into his mouth just like every other start of year feast.

He looked up at the staff table and saw 3 new teachers. One was a tall, thin man with bright blonde hair that reminded him of Lockhart , one was a woman who looked no older than thirty with short black hair and a serious amount of freckles and the final person surprised harry as she was the person who bought the sweet cart around on the Hogwarts express.

He turned back to face his friends and asked who they were. 'Honestly harry', started hermione, ' Do you ever listen? The boy one is our new transfiguration teacher, professor freestone, the old woman from the train is professor Parker-our new muggle studies teacher and the young one is professor Ferand the new DADA teacher. Next time, listen.'

Knowing that there would never be a next time for the start of year feast at Hogwarts made harry slightly depressed but he wasn't that bothered that professor McGonagall wasn't going to be teaching-mainly because she always gave so much homework. The deserts came and eventually it was time to leave for their dormitories. Taking his chances, harry took Ginny's hand and she smiled at him 'I wondered if you still liked me.' And then they walked up to Gryffindor tower in silence until Ginny suddenly turned around and shouted, 'Merlin's beard! I forgot about the first years! I'm meant to bring them with me.' And with that she sped off towards the great

Harry got the password from a prefect and climbed in through the portrait hole. Everyone was sat in groups talking in hushed voices. He wondered why and went to join Ron and hermione. He was about to ask them what this was all about when hermione answered his thoughts,

'Harry I swear you never listen to anything. When professor McGonagall was making her speech she told us that there was a new law. A marriage law. It states that by the age of twenty you must be married and by the age of twenty-five you must have your first child OR have two by the age of thirty.' A whirlwind formed in Harry's head. But before he had time to respond, Hermione had read his mind again,

'You have a choice between choosing your own partner or have the ministry use special magic to find our soul mate.' She paused for a second then carried on a very serious voice, ' but once your ministry soulmate is found you cannot choose someone else.'

Thank you to anyone who reads my story.

Edit: I wish I could get rid of the ridiculous part about the marriage law (like, what was I thinking!!) but it ended up being a crucial part for later plot points so I guess it has to stay.
