The voices down the street get louder.
All of the sudden, I hear screams. Vanessa runs down the street, crying. She sees me and comes to a stop. I feel a sudden rush of worry, despair, and anger all in one. Poor Vanessa. She's scared out of her mind.
I run up to her. "They've... they're... Rob is going to... go get David." that's all she's able to get out before the crying starts. Actually, scratch that. That's when the HYSTERIA starts.
"No. You go get David. AND Chase and Quinn and Jayson. Run now." She bolts off. I turn to face the fight.
A bunch of dudes have formed a circle around the fight. Ricky stands in the middle, blood streaming down his face. Rob is on the other side. He's got a black eye. A bunch of his friends, or bums I should say, close in around him.
I've always wondered what would happen in this situation. Ricky vs. Rob. But this isn't the time to think about that.
I see Petey to the side, knocked out. That surprises me, since Petey is a pretty good fighter, too.
I have no choice. Rob's back is turned to me. I could slow him down so Ricky could attack. I creep around the circle. Some of the bums back away to make an opening and laugh. I'll show them.
I feel another rush of anger. Nobody messes with my brother. I bolt into the circle and jump onto Rob's back, pulling him down. Someone grabs me from behind and throws me to the ground. I get up an attack again, but this time Rob turns and targets me. I duck right as his fist swings through the air. He's not the fastest fighter, so I lunge at his torso and tackle him, football style. I get a quick glimpse of Ricky fighting off another guy. He finally sees me as a feel a sudden burst of pain on the side of my face. My vision blurs, and I feel pain in my ribs as Rob kicks me.
I'm not going to give up. I roll away and get up. I see him charging at me. I kick hard, and my foot comes in contact with his stomach. Then I charge. He's on the ground, and the smell of alcohol on his breath is sickening. He's drunk.
He pushes me off and into the ground. His foot is on my throat when Ricky comes from behind and whacks him with a baseball bat. Then Rob collapses. Ricky pulls me up, and I notice his face is black and blue. All the sudden, Rob is behind him. I push Ricky out of the way, and Rob swings a baseball bat towards my head. That's all I see before I see black.
I open my eyes a bit, and Rob is on the ground, too. His leg is bent backwards, and I hear it crack. Then, a figure behind him picks him up and throws him into a stack of metal trash cans as if he were a rag doll. I see a pink head, and then everything fades into blackness.
