Quickly before I start this story I just want to say that this is different from my other books necause I wanted to try something new out. It is still filled with some romance, but it is really different so I hope you like it.

And now without further ado... How Everything Began.

Madeline's POV

I stared up at the sky at the stars. Everything bad happens to the best people. Well that was a little over dramatic, but that seems to be the case.

I live in a small town with a population the size of an average high school here in America. We have a population of 1,000 people.

That means that everyone knows each other and everyone talks about everyone else.

Right now I am the talk of the town. About a week ago I had a seizure in front of the entire school.

Then two days later I was diagnosed with a brain tumor. That's how you go from the most popular girl in high school who spreads the rumors to being the biggest rumor in the city.

I wanted to run today. That's what I do. I run. I run to get out of all of my problems. I run to forget, but they said I can't run. At least not for few weeks.

They told me I needed to be stronger, but how can I be strong if I have a tumor and can't run it off.

I have been laying on the ground for a few hours because it is getting dark now.

I hear some beeping. It must be the new neighbors. I knew they were moving in today so I was surprised that they had waited until the middle of the night to do it.

I got up slowly so I didn't get light headed and lose my balance. I peeked around the corner of the house.

I decided that the newcomers looked pretty harmless so I made a move to go and see if they needed any help.

That's when I saw him. He was standing holding some boxes waiting for the door to be opened. He looked about my age. And he was beautiful. That may sound weird, but that was the only word to describe him.

I walked over to him and stuck out my hand. That was when I realized that he couldn't really take my hand with his hands holding those boxes.

"Sorry..." I muttered. I began to walk away because that was about as stupid as it gets.

"Wait." That was all he said and yet it made me stop.

"Hi. I'm your neighbor, Madeline, but everyone calls me Maddie."

"Hi." I could tell my being here made thing awkward. "Um, Madeline, your head is bleeding."

"Oh come on! It's your first day here and you already know about the tumor!" I yelled rubbing my forehead for effect. Then I felt it. My stitches were bleeding.

"Oh. You didn't know about the tumor until I just yelled at you. You meant my stitches were bleeding." I muttered.

He shook his head yes. "Well it was nice to meet you. I've gotta go to the hospital now."

I began to run home but he reached out and grabbed my arm. "Let me take you."

"I really should go with my-" I stopped myself because he was already telling his parents where he was going. I told him that I needed to tell my parents and began the journey home.

I opened to door and yelled, "I'm headed to the hospital with our new neighbor. The stitches broke."

"Have fun sweetie!" My dad said from the kitchen. He had been preoccupied with my little sister and I'm pretty sure he's glad I'm going out. Even if it is to a hospital. Maybe he didn't even know where I was going. I hadn't really been going anywhere since we found out about the tumor.

Soon I was riding in the car with my new neighbor, whose name I had yet to learn.

"So what's your name?" I asked, breaking the bubble of silence that surrounded us.

"Jackson. Jackson Holt." He replied. "Brain tumor?" He asked in shorthand.

"Left frontal lobe. Wait how'd you know it was in my brain?"

"The stitches are on your head and my little brother."

"What about your little brother?" I hadn't seen any other kids at the house.

"He died because of a brain tumor in his right frontal lobe." He didn't seem as sad as he did angry.

"Sorry." I didn't quite know how to respond.

"It was right after his third chemo. He was doing better and then he was gone."

Again I was speechless, "Sorry." I said for lack of better words.

"I know that I don't know you, but I hope you don't die."

"Yeah. You and this whole town."

"They all know you?"

"Pretty much. It's a small town. I'm popular. News travels fast."

"You're popular?" He questioned, laughing.

"Yes, I'm popular. Is it that hard to believe?"

"Well you don't seem like the preppy cheerleader type."

"Well then you don't really know me." I laughed. I actually wasn't a cheerleader because there were no good sports teams to cheer for here. I am popular because I am nice. That may sound weird but the rest of the popular people are a bunch of pricks and stuck up rich kids so I'm not sure why I'm the most popular. I just lead them. All the popular kids in school. It must be because of Jason.

Jason was my boyfriend and he was the richest boy in school. He had his own car and his family owned their own yacht.

"So you're a cheerleader, huh?"

"Nope. Not in the slightest bit. I'm dating a very rich boy who likes to throw his money around on parties and expensive things he doesn't need."

"Sounds like you don't like that guy?"

"Oh no. I love him to death, but his spending habits get on my nerves sometimes."

"So why am I the one taking oh to the hospital and not him?" He questioned.

"He's always busy."

"Tumor, right?"

I gave him a look as to say go on.

"Well my brother was six when he was diagnosed. And a lot of his close friends stopped hanging out with him. They thought it was contagious or something like that."

"Then yes. It's the tumor."

"He's scared. Anyone would be."

"Yeah, but he's supposed to be here for me. I'm the most scared out of anyone."

"I supposed, but losing someone close to you hurts you more than it hurts the dead person. Maybe he doesn't want to be hurt." He said as he pulled into a parking spot at the hospital.

"But he's hurting me." I responded getting out of the car.

"I know it sucks, but it'll all end up for the better." Then my vision began to go blurry. I was going to have another seizure.

"Jackson-" Was all I could say before I fell to the pavement.

I am going to post part one after this prolouge, but after that it will be a week between each update. So savor each and every word!
