Thomas's POV

Today is Friday, which means one week until the homecoming game. I'm extremely nervous about the important football game, knowing it meant a lot to the school, but i was even more nervous about something else. I'm planning on asking Teresa to the homecoming dance but I'm afraid she won't want to go.

I don't want to do a big gesture, since she's told me she hates those. Apparently they're too showy. Instead I'm planning a perfect date to ask her on.

"Hey beautiful." I say as I sit at our usual lunch table. Teresa blushes, which is adorable, but before she could say anything we're interrupted by my two idiot best friends.

"Hey guys guess what!" Newt exclaims as he and Minho sit opposite of us.

"Chicken butt?" I say sarcastically.

"Sonya agreed to go to the homecoming dance with me!" He says excitedly.

"That's great dude!" I smile, but butterflies flutter in my stomach thinking of asking Teresa.

"Did you have any luck with Harriet, Minho?" Teresa asks.

"No, she's still mad cuz I cheated. I hope she forgives me soon, I don't really want to go with anyone but her." he says sadly.

"Have you told her that?" Teresa inquires.

"Hey, that's a good idea! I'll be back." Minho runs off, most likely to pull Harriet from whatever class she's in.

"Idiot." I mutter as we all laugh.

Later that day, I get bored in math and decide to text Teresa about our date.

Thomas❤️: I know your a nerd and all, but any chance your on your phone?

Teresa😘: Lucky for you I'm in study hall but you really should be paying attention. Especially since you just used the wrong your twice.

I roll my eyes and laugh a bit, which earns me looks from some classmates that are actually working.

Thomas❤️: O whatever
Thomas❤️: You wanna do something tomorrow?

Teresa😘: What did you have in mind?

Thomas❤️: Well you'll just have to figure that out. I'll pick you up at noon?

Teresa😘: The suspense is killing me. I'll see you then☺️

I smile, the date was set up, now all I had to do was muster up the courage to ask her.

I show up at her house at 11:55. Crap I think Isn't being early lame or something? I ponder weather to go in until 11:58 and then finally enter the bookshop.

Teresa is reading a book, per usual, when I walk in. She looks stunningly beautiful and my heart did a little flip when I saw her.

"Hey." I say. God you're lame. Get it together I tell myself.

"Hello." She smiles, "so are you ready to tell me where we're going yet?"

"It's a surprise." I answer with a light laugh. She sighs but laughs a bit as well.

I have the day planned out perfectly. It's not exactly original, but I'd say it's pretty romantic.

We get in my car and drive about twenty minutes to our destination.

"Pleeeeeaaase tell me where it is?" Teresa asked the entire time. I declined of course, not wanting to give away the surprise.

When I stopped the car we were seemingly in the middle of nowhere, surrounded only by grass, trees, and the road.

"You didn't take me here to murder me did you?" Teresa jokes. I chuckle, then lead her across the grass to a secluded area I set up.

I put a small picnic blanket next to a tree and put little flowers around it. I know, cheesy, but Teresa seems to like it. She gasps and smiles at the sight. She's so beautiful when she's happy. I'd do all the cheesy stunts in the world to see her smile.

"Tom." she exclaims, "this is amazing! You did this for me?"

"Well of course, who else?" I laugh. Taking her hand, I lead her over to the blanket where I had a picnic basket filled with Teresa's favorite foods.

"Peanut butter and jellies... green peppers... barbecue chips... chocolate chip cookies! All of my favorites! You've remembered!" she says, becoming more exited with each word.

"Well duh, why wouldn't I remember?" I laugh. I see a flash in her eyes but within seconds it's replaced by happiness. I decide not to press and kill the mood, but someday I would like to know what she was thinking.

For the rest of our lunch we are and joked in bliss, discussing school, friends, and anything really. I always felt safe with her, like i could be myself. I usually didn't feel like that with others. The pressure to be perfect is severe in my family and I guess I have a 'reputation' or whatever to upkeep at school. It's nice to be me for once, and not the perfect boy everyone else knows.

Eventually we finish our meals and the conversation has died down, it's the perfect time to ask her. I gather my courage before starting the speech I had rehearsed in my head a million times.

"Hey can I um ask you something?" I ask nervously.

"Anything." she grins.

"Well you know there's this um well there's this dance for homecoming... you know the uh homecoming dance and it's uh not that big of a deal I mean it's kinna stupid really but uh..." I take a deep breath, "Willyougotothehomecomingdancewithme?" I spit out.

"I'm sorry, can you repeat that?" She laughs.

"Will you uh." I grin and scratch the back of my neck, "Will you go to the homecoming dance with me?" I ask sheepishly.

"Of course idiot!" she laughs and I feel light as air, "I thought you'd never ask."

"Okay good, not that I was nervous about it or anything." I try to play it cool but she only laughs more.

"Today has been perfect Tom, thank you for everything." She smiles and kisses me, lightly and passionately. I feel as though I'm melting as I kiss back, never wanting this moment to end.
