The Reunion ~ Part 2 ~ Memory Or A Nightmare?

Start from the beginning

The scene above the child's head switched to a young girl, dressed in an outfit that resembled one of Alice's from Alice In Wonderland, walking through a toy store. The small girl in the dream tip toed through an aisle of stationary toys, all just itching to be played with.

When the sand on Nicholas' finger came in contact with the gold dream sand, it absorbed immediately into the dream, spreading and turning the gold into red quickly. As each sand particle moved, it flashed from red to green, then back again. The girl in the dream, now bright red, picked up her pace and skipped joyfully through the never ending aisle. The toys on each side of her, now flashing red and green, became frantically mobile. The airplanes buzzed around in the air above her head, the cars whirled to life and drove alongside her, and the dolls stood up and started walking.

Sarah stood in awe at the scene in front of her, her mouth agape and her bright blue eyes wide in amazement. Never had she seen her friend's -- the Sandman -- creation be turned into something even greater than it originally was.

"Oh my!" she sighed as she continued to watch her daughter's entertaining dream, "Nicholas, where did you ever find such a chemical?!"

Without turning his proud stare from her dream, Nicholas answered his wife's question without hesitation and with full pride, "It was a Christmas gift from Sandy," he spoke, referring to one of his best friends and allies, the Sandman, "He had special sand made for all of us guardians. All four of us got one earlier after I returned home."

"Ah, yes. How was the Christmas party you threw for the Guardians? I trust that everything went well."

"Why don't you come see for yourself, my dear? Everyone is waiting for you after all," he whispered as he turned them around.

"Alright. I'm sure she wouldn't mind if I slipped out for a moment or two..."

As the couple walked out the door, a loud, sinister laugh filled the room. The couple returned to the room in a hurry, to see shadows dancing wickedly on the walls and getting closer to the child in the crib. Nicholas stood in front of his wife and held his swords out, ready for anything that may come their way.

Another laugh echoed around the room and the shadows lapped at the fire as it dimmed into nothing but ashes. Nicholas stepped forward to guard his child, but a large arm made of darkness outstretched its hand and blocked his path. However, this didn't discourage him in the least. Sweeping large slashes into the shadow's hand, he kept trying to break through to the other side to reach his beloved daughter, but alas, the hand only curled around him and clutched him in almost a death grip. Sarah screamed as another smaller hand clasped around her too, except it wrapped it's index finger around her mouth, causing her screams to be muffled.

Now that the Guardian and his mate were captured, a dark figure stepped out of the foreboding shadows and made itself known. A cloak made of black eloped a tall, slender man whose eyes glowed a menacing neon yellow. His lips were pulled up in a sadistic grin and showed his grey teeth that matched his pale complexion, He laughed at the sight before him; the famous Saint Nicholas Claus and his angelic soul mate all tied up, and their small, defenseless daughter curled up in a blanket, quietly dreaming.

"Well, well, well," he chuckled as her stalked over to the couple, "what do we have here? Did you not think I'd hear about your "Precious Little Wonder", North? Did you not think I'd do anything?"

"I knew you'd find out, Pitch," Nicholas spat, "but I thought you wouldn't dare do anything, you insignificant swine."

"You thought wrong." With a swipe of his hand, Pitch was gone from their sight. The hands turned them towards the cot where Pitch had reappeared and was now standing over the child within.

"Isn't she something?" Secretly, deep down, Pitch found he couldn't hate the child like he thought he would -- he actually adored her -- but there was no way he would let the parents -- his enemies -- see that. "She may make a fair queen one day...Yes...The title "The Queen Of Fear" will suit her nicely. For now though," He turned and saw the look of shock and disgust on the couple's faces before speaking again, "I believe "The Princess Of The Shadows" is better."

Within a blink of an eye, Pitch had scooped up the child in his arms and reached out to touch the flashing red and green dream above her small head.

"Don't you dare, Pitch," Nicholas growled as his wife began to weep.

"But I already have."

Pitch's grey, slender finger touched the image above the child's head and the dream sand immediately turned black. The girl in the scene remained, while the toys and the aisle disappeared. The girl was standing with a group of people, all laughing and smiling, before they stopped and turned towards her. The people in the dream started abusing her -- shouting insults and hitting her -- and then they turned away, and left her lying on the imaginary ground, broken and bleeding. Anyone who was watching could see the girl was twitching and trying to stand up, but kept failing. This broke both Sarah and Nicholas' hearts, and filled Pitch's with power.

The child in his arms began to cry and wail, scared from the nightmare it was viewing. Pitch smiled as he felt more power from the baby's cries, which made the Guardian Of Wonder's eyes tear up, he had made sure to never let his daughter cry, and now here he was, watching his only daughter wail was torture.

Pitch let out another sadistic laugh before looking down at the sleeping baby. "Say goodbye to mummy and daddy, because you'll never see them again. Ever."

"DELILAH!" Sarah screamed for her baby as the darkness overtook Pitch and the said child.

And just like that, they were gone.

The shadows disappeared with him and The Guardian and his wife were dropped to the ground.

Miles away from the workshop where they were previously, Pitch stood under the clear night sky, facing the Moon with the small child in his arms. The Moon dulled as he witnessed what the villain had done.

"I win, old man," Pitch sneered as he held the baby who was still experiencing her first nightmare.

Manny was mortified, to say the least. He had spent so much power and effort into fabricating the child's rebirth, and now the notorious Pitch Black was destroying the girl's life -- again! He wouldn't allow it, so, with the little power he had left, Manny sent the purest beam of Moonlight he could make down to earth. The beam hit the child, causing Pitch to drop her into the soft snow and hot burns to scorch his hands where she previously was.

A white light spread through the world at that precise moment, causing all the fear and darkness within everyone to disappear for a few short seconds, which was brilliant, but that act caused the Man In The Moon's powers to diminish, leaving him with next to nothing.

Pitch reached out to grab the now sleeping peacefully child, but when his hand touched her again, a fire-y sensation burned his hands, resulting in more scars across his grey hands. The shadows were the only things that could touch her, except they could only move the child, not hold her. So, Pitch commanded the shadows to take her to the only adult mortal that still believed in him: Stephen Scout.
