*+*Delilah's PoV*+*
An agonising hour of torture passed, and father finally left after sending me flying into the back wall of my barren room. I laid crumpled on the cool floor boards, watching the crimson liquid cover most parts of my body and feeling my broken bones ache. I eventually pulled myself up on all fours and slowly dragged myself over to the window, feeling my muscles burn and my bones grind together in agony. I stared up into the night sky, and I smiled.
"See Manny?" I called to him as I stared kindly up at the Moon. "I'm fine. He didn't hurt me as bad as I expected him to. I promise, I'm ok." I half lied. I knew that this was one of the worst beatings I ever had, but there was no point in telling Manny that - he'd just get upset. Oblivious to my lie, the Moon seemed like it glowed again, but just like the many times it happened previously, I brushed it off with a giggle.
Manny wouldn't glow for someone as insignificant as me.
I pushed my torso further off the floor and sat slumped on my shins, still staring at the moon. Because my window only consisted of wooden planks - no glass - I felt a cool breeze dance across my bruising face and I immediately felt a bit better. My breathing evened out and a small, sad smile spread across my face. This moment felt - as sick as it sounds - ...perfect.
The aching and burning throughout my body sent a numbing sensation that calmed me down. It's not as though I love pain, just the feeling afterwards. The feeling that the pain won't return for a day or less feels good - I could relax for now.
The night sky was now black with shimmers of silver dotted everywhere and anywhere. The streetlights that lit up the road below shone dimly, with the occasional flicker every few seconds. The grass and pathways were not visible anymore, and the neighbouring houses looked like looming black shadows, surrounding the pale road.
Everything was perfect, until I heard banging downstairs. I listened closely and I heard yells. I don't know what made me do it, but I grabbed my pillow and stole one last look at Manny, before opening the door and tiptoeing to the stairs.
All I can say, is that I was lucky to grab my pillow that night, because little did I know, that I would soon need my friend to save me.
